“Classic Spurs” “Standard” These fans react to report Levy didn’t move for heavily-scouted target

Tottenham reportedly kept a close eye on Josh Maja during his time at Sunderland, but opted against making an offer.

The 21-year-old went on to join Bordeaux last year, and he has bagged eight goals and three assists in 24 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit so far this season.

It could have been very different for him as the Netflix documentary ‘Sunderland ‘Til I Die’, as reported by HITC, has revealed that Tottenham scouted the talented youngster as many as nine times during the 2018/19 campaign.

However, that didn’t develop into a tangible offer to prise him away from the club and Maja went on to make the switch to Bordeaux instead with his form arguably suggesting that he could find himself in England sometime in the future.

Spurs fans have been busy reacting to the talk that the club never made a move, with many conceding that it sounds very much like something chairman Daniel Levy and the hierarchy would do.

That in turn seemingly saw former boss Mauricio Pochettino fail to land a player of interest, with Tottenham going through a significant period of inactivity in the transfer market around the time their new stadium was being built.

Does this actually imply there’s a scouting network in place?

Spurs experience of French footballers is decidedly mixed, Lloris and Sissoko in one corner, Njie and Nkoudou and N’Dombele in the other, you might have thought that Spurs would have spotted the red flag in Tanguy’s name.
