“Can only become better” – Hugo Lloris full of praise for Tottenham man who has made a ‘huge impact’

Tottenham Hotspur’s legendary goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, left the club in the summer after an illustrious 11 and a half years at the club.

The Frenchman signed a contract with the MLS side Los Angeles FC for the 2024 season, with options to extend for the following two years.

The former Spurs captain made a remarkable 444 appearances for the side across all competitions, maintaining 151 clean sheets during his tenure.

Speaking exclusively to Sky Sports’ Danyal Khan in LA, Hugo Lloris reflected on his departure from the club and shared his thoughts on the Lilywhites’ future under Ange Postecoglou. The goalkeeper stated:

“Spending my last moment as a Spurs footballer with Daniel Levy and my family was something really important to me but also to say goodbye to the Spurs fans.”

Lloris acknowledges that things have been progressing positively at Tottenham under the guidance of the Australian head coach. He said:

“With freshness, with new and young players and with a different football approach and it’s working really well at the moment – I’m glad for the club.

Despite being part of the squad, the 37-year-old did not feature for the club in the last six months. Spurs announced in August that Son Heung-Min had replaced Lloris as the captain.

The France International remained at the club and continued training despite Postecoglou failing to include him in the squad. Lloris recalled the six months with immense appreciation and respect for Ange, stating:

“Even if I wasn’t involved in the last six months at Spurs, it was really interesting to see the Ange Postecoglou approach of football. To be part of the meetings, every training session, to understand his demands… I’m not really surprised the way he has impacted the football style at Spurs and he can only become better with time.

“Ange has made a huge impact in a short time, we all want to see what is the limit of this team. Success cannot be built in a few months or a year but they are going in the right direction.”

Lloris was not the only club hero to depart North London recently; Harry Kane and Eric Dier also bid farewell after spending many years at the club.

The only two remaining players from the club who played in the 2019 Champions League final are Son Heung-Min and Ben Davies.

Indeed, it’s clear that with their recent signings, Spurs are embarking on a new era, focusing on young talents such as Brennan Johnson, Micky van de Ven, Pedro Porro, Dejan Kulusevski, Radu Dragusin, and others.
