Can Mourinho Break His ‘Curse Of The Ex’ Today?

By The Boy -

Our gaffer José Mourinho is winless in his last six away league games against sides he’s previously managed (D2 L4), which is a hex that the Special One will be keen to end sooner rather than later. At Spurs, the 56-year-old is not so much stamping his mark on the squad as re-enacting a casting out of the money-lenders type sketch, clearing from his path anyone that either isn’t prepared to embrace his vision, or convince him that they are up to the task.

Manchester United fans are a comical bunch and would have one believe that José had a disastrous spell at Old Trafford, and they are well rid of him. The truth is less coloured and the Portuguese remains the only coach to have won silverware for the Red Devils since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. It might be argued that the only reason Ole Gunnar Solskjær has been so indulged, is because the club had to draw a line at sacking perfectly good managers, just because they didn’t completely live up to Ferguson, the living legend. Away win.

A home win is evens. The draw is @5/2 and José to break his duck is @14/5

For the (seems like) thousandth time, Mourinho is not the only Utd manager since Red nose to win anything. Van Gaal won the FA Cup and the day after got the shepherd’s hook. Mourinho did win trophies at the club, but the Utd fans still remember the toxicity and dourness towards the end. Poch was nowhere near these levels, but a manager can’t be cheery when they know their time is up. Poch in his pressers was a beaten man at the end, so was Jose. Very rarely does a manager leave under good circumstances. They should at least remember the good times. At the moment Jose has been given better options than when he came. Now he has to deliver results and performances just like our immediate rivals, Leicester and Everton. Today will be tough, but Utd are beatable, we need to exploit their centre backs and left back. A point would not be a disaster but we would be 7 points off Everton, that gap cannot widen. Chasing one club is fine, chasing 6 is not.
