‘By the end of this week’ – Sky Sports confident of Spurs transfer finally over the line

According to Sky Sports, Blackburn defender Ashley Phillips is set to move to Tottenham by the end of this week when a release clause in his contract kicks in.

Spurs were close to completing a move for him last month.

The North London club was close to securing the young defender’s signature last month when they agreed to pay his £2 million release clause.

Phillips even underwent a medical in London, indicating that the deal was practically done.

However, Alan Nixon later reported that the move is on a brink of collapsing after Blackburn tried to play clever and asked for £5M + add-ons instead.

The £2m release clause was not to activate until first week of August which Blackburn Rovers tried to exploit hoping that a bidding war would kick in as other clubs were interested in signing him too.

The plan backfired and after no other clubs agreed to pay what they were asking for, Spurs once again remained the only interested party.

Now, Sky Sports have confirmed that Spurs will pay off his release clause which comes into effect this Friday and deal will then be completed.

“Blackburn also expect Defender Ashley Phillips to move to Spurs by the end of this week when a release clause comes into effect in Friday.”

That’s two defenders expected to sign for Spurs by the end of this week.

Earlier it was reported that negotiations with Wolfsburg for Micky van de Ven has reached the final stages, with a deal expected to be wrapped up by the end of the week.

Additionally, the club continues to express interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.
