Tottenham Hotspur finally ended their Premier League winless streak with a 2-0 victory away at Brentford on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs went into the match on a run of just one point from their last seven in the Premier League, leaving them in serious danger of being dragged into the relegation battle.
However, the Lilywhites took the lead against their London rivals in the 29th minute, with Vitaly Janelt diverting a Son Heung-min corner into his own net.
Spurs were happy to defend their lead from there, picking their moments to counter attack. Although Brentford dominated the ball for large stretches, Spurs rarely looked flusttered and kept the Bees at arm’s length.
Ange Postecoglou’s men finished the job in the final moments of normal time when Son played in Pape Sarr, who calmly finished off a sweeping Spurs counter-attack.
Sunday’s win sees Spurs move to 14th in the table, although they’re still seven points off the top half and only 10 ahead of the relegation zone.
For now, here are full Spurs player ratings from a vital London derby win.
Tottenham player ratings: Son Heung-min the architect

Antonin Kinsky – 5/10 – Made a couple of decent saves to preserve a clean sheet but looks a nervous wreck dealing with crosses.
Pedro Porro – 4/10 – Looked like he was playing with the handbrake on. Didn’t get forward nearly as much as he normally does and was beaten a few times defensively.
Archie Gray – 7/10 – Kept his composure well under pressure from the Brentford players and supporters, the odd rash moment aside. Made five clearances, three recoveries, two interceptions and one block.
Ben Davies – 8/10 – Cut out practically everything that came his way with 10 clearances, two recoveries, one block and one interception. Showed great composure with the ball, too, with 91% pass completion.
Djed Spence – 8/10 – Given a serious test by Mbeumo but stuck to the task very well and didn’t let much past him. Even managed to get forward and created a couple of chances as well. Made a vital goalline clearance just moments before Tottenham’s second goal.
Rodrigo Bentancur – 8/10 – Brought great composure to the Spurs midfield and was alert to any loose ball that dropped around him, making 10 recoveries.
Yves Bissouma – 7/10 – Misplaced just one of his 31 passes and battled hard to shut down the Brentford midfield until he was rested in the 68th minute.
Dejan Kulusevski – 5/10 – A busy afternoon, with nine touches in the opposition box, four attempted dribbles and four shots. However, Kulusevski often cut a frustrated figure, with things just not quite coming off for him as they so often do usually.
Mikey Moore – 6/10 – Created a couple of chances and had a few bright moments, despite some frustrating decision-making at times. Brought off at half-time.
Richarlison – 5/10 – In terms of raw output, this was a poor game for Richarlison. However, he deserves credit for doing a job out of position. Furthermore, you’ll always get 100% from the Brazilian and that was no different here, with Brentford defenders under constant pressure.
Son Heung-min – 8/10 – Whipped in a great corner that forced the own goal and after an hour of extremely frustrating decision-making, delivered the goods again with a beautiful pass for Sarr’s winner.
Substitutes:
Lucas Bergvall (46′, for Moore) – 7/10 – Brought calm to the Spurs midfield once again, completing 16 of his 17 passes.
Pape Sarr (68′, for Bissouma) – 8/10 – Picked up where Bissouma left off defensively and finished the game with a well-taken goal near the end.
Dane Scarlett (79′, for Richarlison) – 5/10 – Put himself about without really doing much of note.
