Dimitar Berbatov has admitted that he refused to play for Tottenham amidst the speculation ahead of his switch to Manchester United.
The Bulgarian left Spurs for Old Trafford in a protracted transfer in the summer of 2008. He started on the bench for our opening game of the 2008-09 season at Middlesbrough and was omitted from the squad entirely for the next two matches, before finally getting his move on deadline day.
Although he holds no ill-will against the club for playing hard-ball with United, Berbatov recalled to Sky Sports how he asked Juande Ramos and Damien Comolli not to play because he didn’t feel in the right head space.
via ytCropperIn the same interview with Sky, the silky striker admitted that he came close to joining United a year earlier, after just one season at White Hart Lane.
Another player in a long line under ENIC that could’ve made us great but then simply blotted his copy book.
Silky but lazy.. If Berbs had the work ethic of Kane then he would have been a big success at united.. He was better for us, underperforming for them he didnt last long as their main striker.
