“Be amazing” “We don’t have the money” Mixed fan reaction as deal for Back To Back La Liga winner is mooted

By The Boy -

The suggestion from the Daily Mail‘s Jordan Seeward is that Spurs are 8/10 when it comes to signing Phillipe Coutinho, which is half a length ahead (to use racing jargon) of supposed rivals Chelsea, Leicester City and Arsenal. The mere mention of this on social media caused and immediate split in fan reaction as you can see.

For my money, this is a player that for numerous reasons has had his moment in the Premier League sun, and it would take a number of significant ‘altered conditions’ in order to enable the 28-year-old to return. Sky Sports estimate that the players’ wages are currently in the region of £250,000 per week, which quite frankly would cause Daniel Levy’s spreadsheet to spontaneously combust.

Right now, Spurs are still trying to encourage Tanguy Ndombele out of the dressing room, and the last thing the club needs is an even wider beak poking out of the nest. In fact, in the present financial conditions, it is ambitious to imagine any English side being prepared to take a rather expensive punt on the former Liverpool ‘ace’.

He’s not much more in wages then Tanguy… And he actually plays. Coutinhos class man. Played out of position on the left wing for Barca thats why hes struggled there. He needs to be in the middle… Can’t see us selling Dele or any more english unless we buy or promote any more from the acadamy. Homegrown rule.

Tom S thinks Coutinho was a washout at liverpool 🤔 Errrrrrr he was their best player and they did everything they could to keep him. He wanted to go Barca…. Where do these people come from.

Coutinho as a loan has legs if Barca supplemented the wages. Grealish isn’t going anywhere unless someone steps up with £55m. That is doable if we sell a few, but we could have got this lad for £20-25m a year ago! Will be interesting what the Sancho deal is with Utd, that should set a barometer for other English deals.

After what Levy did to Villa the last time there was talk of Grealish going,I hardly think they will be bending over backwards for him to tear them a new one.
He just won’t go to what they would want for him.

He’s already turned us down once. I think this is just more fantasy for the masses.

Coutinho is a luxury player, it’s a case of whether he can serve a purpose for this team, and there’s no guarantee he will show up consistently when needed, good player but he’s a risk .

I’d rather have Grealish if we are looking for creativity. He’s been magnificent all season and does more than his share of defensive work.

I did state he wouldn’t be a priority, but a loan signing isn’t out of the realms of fantasy. £30m for one season is ridiculous though. Brokering a deal like Utd are trying to do with Sancho is another possibility. For that we’d need to sell on Dele and Nnomnomnombele. If we don’t buy quality though at some stage we’ll end up like Everton and West Ham. Wilson and Hojbjerg are of that standard (fit for Everton and West Ham), but not being in the Ch Lg has its consequences.

Lets live in the real world that the likes of Coutinho, Dyabala and Isco won’t be joining Spurs. Next!

Coutinho is a quality player. Far from washed out as one of the twitterati wrote. I’d have him instead of Dele in a heartbeat. Playing in behind a front 3 he would run the show. He’s got far more end product than Lo Celso too, although not his work rate, but they could work well together if we signed a very good defensive midfielder. Problem is he isn’t a priority at the moment. However, I’d do with Ndominoesbele what Chelsea are purportedly doing with Kepa, get rid. I honestly don’t know how he can shift the weight, if he hasn’t been able to do it already.
