BBC journalist claims Barnsley is looking to beat Spurs to talented 19-year-old forward

By Bruce Grove -

Barnsley is looking to beat Tottenham to the signature of Wigan’s Kyle Joseph.

The Scottish striker has emerged as a transfer target for the Lilywhites in this transfer window as they look to add younger players to their squad.

Wigan has entered administration, and Spurs took advantage of their financial woes to sign Alfie Devine in the summer.

The youngster scored on his debut against Marine in the FA Cup and has continued to impress in the Tottenham youth teams.

Joseph is the next top star in the Wigan side that might be leaving them soon, and Spurs have been linked with a move for him.

The Lilywhites are now facing competition from Barnsley, according to BBC’s Andy Giddings.

He claimed that The Tykes have made a substantial bid to Wigan for his signature as they look to secure the signing of a striker in this transfer window.

This competition is one that Tottenham has to pay attention to, not because Barnsley is a big team, but because he would feel there is a better chance of him playing first-team football there.

He has been a key member of the first team at Wigan this season and has 5 goals from 12 League One games for them.

He won’t get any first team games like he would at Barnsley, is the simple truth, so he would probably progress there more than with us.
