Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini talks about joining Tottenham

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur is about to welcome a new goalkeeper that could become the eventual replacement for current starter Hugo Lloris. The soon-to-be-former Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini is on his way to London to complete the loan deal.

However, before arriving to make his move to Tottenham, Gollini did his COVID-19 test and his medical exams in Milan; the 26-year-old also spoke to Sky Sports, where he showed excitement for this next chapter in his career.

“I am very happy. It is very difficult to leave my second home. I thank Bergamo [where Atalanta play] and the fans. I felt very loved, and what we did will remain in history,” Gollini said.

“I am grateful to Tottenham for this opportunity; I can’t wait to start. The possibility of staying in Italy was there, but Tottenham was the best opportunity.”

The deal for the Italy international is a loan with an option to buy for £13-million, which will become an obligation if he plays a certain number of games.

Gollini’s move to Tottenham won’t be his first taste of English football as he made 20 appearances for Aston Villa in 2016-17 while the club was in the Championship. Nonetheless, it will be the goalkeeper’s initial go around in the Premier League, and Tottenham hopes that they have the right man for the future.
