Arsenal can still impact Tottenham’s European ambitions if they win the FA Cup

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham will be in for a long ride before they enter the group stage of the Europa League if Arsenal wins the FA Cup.

The Lilywhites finished their Premier League season in the sixth position and they should enter the Europa League at the group stages, but that will change if Arsenal beats Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

Three teams join the Europa League from England, with the seventh position entering the competition through the qualifying stages which will entail playing three games before the group stages.

As things stand, Spurs will go into the group stages while Wolves who finished seventh will go through the daunting qualifying stages.

However, if Arsenal beats Chelsea in the final of the FA Cup, the Gunners will be guaranteed a spot in the group stages of the competition. That will eliminate Wolves from the competition and in effect push Spurs’ down the qualifying list.

Jose Mourinho has told his players that they will win the Europa League if they qualified for it (Football365), and the special one will be hoping that Arsenal will be beaten by Chelsea in the final to avoid extra fixtures for his team.

Obviously, Arsenal losing to Chelsea is not just about making our lives easier in the Europa League, another aspect is that a loss for the Gunners eliminates them entirely from Europe and that is also something to celebrate.

Wolves would qualify for the Champions League, making five English teams in that competition (Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Wolves).
Leicester City and Arsenal would qualify for the group stages of the Europa League.
Tottenham would drop down to the second qualification round of Europa League.
England would just have eight clubs in European competition.

Hope so, just hope there isn’t a limit on how many English teams can qualify for Europe.
