‘Are you insane?’ – Richarlison responds to question about the famous Conte Tuchel spat

By Mehdi Gokal -

Richarlison admits there was “no chance” Tottenham players approached Antonio Conte to make light of his heated spat with former Chelsea counterpart Thomas Tuchel.

After their teams played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in the Premier League in August, the two managers got into a heated row. Conte and Tuchel exchanged verbal jabs after making a point of celebrating in front of each other when their teams scored, and at the end of the game, the full-time handshake turned sour.

Both managers were sent off and subsequently fined by the FA with Tuchel receiving further punishment for his comments about referee Anthony Taylor. The German, sacked by Chelsea earlier this month, and his Italian counterpart Conte are both known for being extremely fiery and emotional during the games.

And such is Conte’s passion that when Richarlison was questioned whether the Spurs players tried to make a joke out of the fiery encounter, the Brazilian claimed that it would have been absurd to poke fun at the Italian for his encounter with Tuchel. “Are you insane? No chance, come on! Would you try any jokes? I did not.” he told FourFourTwo

Speaking about the incident, he said:

“That was fun, wasn’t it?”

“At the time, we were still involved with the game, so we watched what happened between them on video in the dressing room.”

While Chelsea fired Tuchel and replaced him with Graham Potter, Spurs have made a strong start to the Premier League season under Conte. They are unbeaten after seven games and sit one point behind Arsenal, who currently lead the table.

After the international break, Spurs will travel to the Emirates to take on Arsenal in what is expected to be another fiery encounter.
