Antonio Conte praises the playmaking abilities of Harry Kane but wants him to focus on being a striker

By Eddie Razo -

Despite Tottenham Hotspur coming away with a 4-0 win over Aston Villa that saw Son Heung-min secure a hat-trick, manager Antonio Conte wants to see more from Harry Kane and wants more from the 28-year-old regarding his goal-scoring responsibilities.

Kane gets praise for being a creator, but the Italian tactician wants Kane to be an out-and-out number nine striker and hopes to bring in a new number 10.

“Harry, he was born a striker,” the Italian said, per Daily Mail. “But he has the talent and quality to play like a number 10 with another striker in front of him. But I like to have him as a striker and then eventually another number 10. Two different players with different characteristics.”

The England international has been proficient at both positions for Spurs over the last couple of seasons, scoring goals at his regular pace while also being his squad’s most creative player when the striker drops deep.

Kane provided two assists in the north London club’s 4-0 win over Aston Villa on the goals scored by Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski. However, Conte wants to see him concentrate on his more traditional role and a new creative player arriving despite affecting a match in this manner.

Don’t forget how when Eriksen initially wanted to leave Levy wouldn’t sell him so I highly doubt a reunion is in order.

I’m not sure we go for a traditional creative mid with Conte in charge – more another creative forward to play in that front three.

What we need in the centre of the field is a really top notch central mid with a bit of everything you’d want a player to have in that position, including a goal threat and leadership qualities. That would be the dream, a Keane or a Gerrard

One game a week and strongest 11 definitely helping us a lot – Sonny looks positively jet propelled now having less football in his legs.

Counter attacking with a tired Son was fruitless a lot of the time earlier in the season.

Don’t want Eriksen for or not..hope he enjoys the rest of his playing days at Brentford or a less stressful club. Christian bused to disappear in too many games and is far too lightweight for the modern game. He can hit a pass but so can Doherty ..You just know Levy will ask him ..Christian will say he will think about it and we will end up with no one…while Christian chuckles..wouldn’t you 3 transfer windows no additions ..I’d have the ache as well…

The concern for me is how long we continue to play in the current set up, it’s worked a treat in the last few weeks, no more so than yesterday but teams don’t take long to adjust and stop you hurting them.
However until we start to struggle with it let’s hope we can make the most. Conte must see the huge influence Kane has as a creative player, that’s what we lose if he plays as a striker leading the line.

With Conte hinting that a no.10 is being sought in the summer, could it be that he fancies a reunion with Christian Eriksen?

He did get him firing after a difficult start at Inter and he wouldn’t need to find his PL feet.He would be free which has to be a huge attraction to Levy.

Don’t fix what isn’t broken. As is stands, we don’t get the creative options from our wing backs or from the midfield, so until we get those players in I’d carry on with what Kane is doing.

Lots of comments bandied about creative midfielders but Liverpool rely on their full backs. We are poles apart as teams in this area and something Conte knows (even my Mum knows). Whether we keep Kane next year or not we need to strengthen in the CB and FB/WingB positions.

Well, Conte is right in that we need another creative option up there. Kulu is helping him a bit already I’d say.
