This past January window, Tottenham Hotspur made a swoop for Juventus duo Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur. Spurs manager Antonio Conte spoke to the media, where he discussed the arrival of the two players.
Conte stated that they landed the two players due to them fitting the philosophy the manager and Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici want to build at Tottenham.
“We signed two new players – Rodrigo Bentacur and Dejan Kulusevski. These two players are the right prospect for the Tottenham philosophy,” Conte said, per Sky Sports.
“They’re young players, talented players to develop and improve. They are important players in the future, but we know you need time to do this. But for the philosophy of Tottenham, these are two good signings for us.”
The additions help add another forward to the group, and they hope the Sweden international can provide some scoring depth behind Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
Meanwhile, with the departures of Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, and Dele Alli, there are plenty of minutes to spare for Bentancur in the midfield should he seize the opportunity.
Conte will have some pressure on his shoulders to get the best out of these two players who weren’t solid starters in the Juventus. Furthermore, Spurs hope that this is also the start of transfers begin panning out for them.
I was being sarcastic, sorry. I have no problem with him having a ‘philosophy’, I just think the word is mostly used in a slightly different context in the UK and is sometimes seen as pretentious. Part of his philosophy clearly is, unless you’re prepared to give blood sweat and tears to the cause, you’re out on your ear. Which I 100% agree with.
I’m being sarcastic, Poch was forever derided for using the same term. English wasn’t his first language either…
I thought the same but at least these 2 appear ro be players thats Conte approved, rather than being foisted upon him
Tres bien.
I think having a “philosophy” is actually good, it helps everyone at the club know what to expect. I mean what was Nuno’s “philosophy” – to bore the pants off everyone maybe.
Anyway, Poch’s problem was that he was only about the philosophy as an excuse for no silverware, don’t think we’ll get that from Conte!
Conte is just reaffirming the reality of the recruitment at the club. He will have picks but they’ve got to have the development remit. But at least it looks like we are buying potential starters rather than long term prospects (which only Romero met both criteria in the summer).
If you recall it was Poch who instilled his own philosophy, mentality thingy the result of which failed , and it has taken this long since his departure for the players to understand and realise that.
Mourinho also tried in his own inimitable way but he deflated and confused the players to such an extent they became disillusioned and lost confidence.
Conte in his short time here has assessed the squad in all aspects and pushed, maybe even forced, players out that did not have the right attitudes or skillsets at the earliest convenience in this transfer window.
He has stated in his pre-match comments that he now has a group of players who are committed to the cause, I don’t remember any previous manager in recent times talking in such positive terms about his squad, so here’s hoping.
Yea……👍
Maybe give him a bit of leeway here as English is not his first language. How’s your Italian?
Oh no, not the ‘philosophy’ mumbojumbo again! From the straight talking Conte too, whatever next?! 🤔
Hopefully they are FIT for next weekend .
