Another Goalkeeping Gaffe – Lloris Howler Gifts Burnley Opener [Video]

By Joe Fish -

For successive games, a goalkeeping howler has cost us.

Predictably it was third-choice Michel Vorm who chucked us out of the FA Cup against Norwich on Wednesday, and what is really worrying is that the error from fit-again number one Hugo Lloris today was just as predictable.

The Frenchman spills a shot from Jay Rodriguez straight into the path of Chris Wood to poke home and give Burnley a 1-0 lead at Turf Moor.

The Frenchman was recalled today after two games out with a groin injury, but he is just as liable to a gaffe as deputies Paolo Gazzaniga and Vorm.

We might as well put a cardboard cutout of Pat Jennings in goal.

I think we were watching the same game. A poor headed clearance set up the shot and as you said he got down and behind a well struck shot.
We are getting very good at the blame game these days, even Jose goes public to deflect any criticism from game style or players he selects.

Oh for crying out loud, Ddoris at fault? Do me a flavour. The ball was struck on the volley, 17 yards from where Ddoris was positioned. There were 2 defenders between the shooter and the keeper, both running across Ddoris’s view. The ball took approximately half a second (I’ve checked) to reach Ddoris, and its trajectory starts dropping from about half way. Our keeper does well to get his body down behind the ball in time; the notion that his inability to either adjust himself enough to catch hold of it or make sufficient adjustments to the angle of his arms to parry it away at exactly the right angle seems to me quite unreasonable. I remember a time when most goals were just accepted as just goals, without the need to pin it on the latest ‘clear incompetent who aught to be sacked immediately’.

Today I watched the game and attempted to take my Spurs Supporter hat off for a bit; just watch dispassionately, and I began to feel sorry for the squad. They’ve been slowly strangled during the past few years and are now being dismantled and reorganised mid season with no proper striker & 3 new players who have no experience of the Premier league never mind our team. They are all quite obviously working as hard as they can but are struggling to hold this clusterf*ck of a situation together, as some might expect. Like it or lump it, this season is a write off. Our manager is forced to do what should be his summertime job at the business end of a season. I don’t envy him or the players and I don’t blame them either. The one to blame enjoys a lower profile compared to the the front line staff. If we point the finger, it needs to be at the most deserving.

How many points has Lloris cost us this season? Mourinho football is a joke, half of our team was made up of center backs, absolute crap football.
