According to Estadio Deportivo, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is keen on keeping Argentine midfielder Giovani Lo Celso at the club and is actively trying to convince the player to stay.
Postecoglou has reportedly told the Tottenham board expressing his preference for Lo Celso over other midfield options like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Tanguy Ndombele, considering him to be as important to the team as James Maddison.
Lo Celso has struggled to secure a regular place in the Tottenham squad in recent years and has spent a significant amount of time on loan at Villarreal recently where has impressed.
It was previously reported by journalist Matt Law that the player has his heart set on leaving this summer.
However, Lo Celso’s performances in pre-season under new manager Ange Postecoglou have been exceptional, turning his fortunes around at the club.
He was brilliant against West Ham in Tottenham’s first pre-season game and even got himself on the scoresheet.
And he was on the score sheet once again in their friendly against Lion City Sailors in Singapore.
Despite Postecoglou’s efforts to convince him to stay, Napoli remains determined to sign Lo Celso and has reportedly made him their “priority signing,” according to Corriere dello Sport.
TBH says:
The midfielder seems to have gotten a second life at Spurs under Ange Postecoglou and so far he is proving himself to be a serious contender for the starting XI next season.
But a transfer to the Italian league winners could be too much a tempting opportunity to reject.
