Ange Postecoglou has admitted he would much rather Tottenham focus on staying entertaining rather than applying the handbrake in favour of results.
There is no doubt that Spurs have become more entertaining under Postecoglou’s management.
In fact, since the start of last season, the Lilywhites are only behind Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League for goals scored (101), shots attempted (782) and chances created (607).
But there has been plenty of frustration to come alongside their attacking flair. Spurs have become prone to defensive collapses and throwing away victories late in matches.
Ange Postecoglou sticking to his guns
Postecoglou has often been accused of being naive, urging his side on in search of more goals instead of shutting up shop.
Any hope from supporters that Postecoglou might drop a few gears in the near future have been dashed by his latest comments — which come off the back of a 2-2 draw against Roma in the Europa League where Spurs were ahead until the first minute of second-half stoppage time.
“No,” Postecoglou said with a smile when asked if he would start to prioritise wins over ‘artistic merit’ (via Football.London).
He continued: “Why can’t it just be entertaining? Isn’t it why we all come? Would you really prefer us to sketch out a couple of 0-0 draws and a 1-0 win and we get through? I don’t know.
“I would much rather we’re exciting to watch and maybe it is edge-of-the-seat stuff and sometimes we don’t get the reward, like we could have tonight, but no, if you want those kinds of games, there are plenty in world football you can watch every weekend. I’d like to think when you tune into us you’ll be entertained.”
Regardless of style, Spurs fans will hope for all three points when they host Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.
