Alasdair Gold: Spurs chief Fabio Paratici is a huge ‘admirer’ of the ‘unplayable’ Premier League star

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to Football London‘s Alasdair Gold, Tottenham Hotspur managing director Fabio Paratici is a big fan of Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

Conte made it clear that he would expect direct replacements for whoever leaves the club this window and with Bryan Gil expected to join Valencia, the Italian manager is looking for an adequate substitute.

Gold has commented on Tottenham’s potential transfer targets, revealing an interest in several Premier League players including Newcastle forward Allan Saint-Maximin, who according to him, Fabio Paratici is a huge ‘admirer’ of.

After Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola praised the ‘dangerous‘ forward for his outstanding performance against his team on Sunday, in which he contributed two assists in a 3-3 draw, it is easy to see why Conte would want a Premier League proven star in his squad.

With Spurs looking to build on their current squad, the addition of Saint-Maximin at Hotspur Way would add fantastic depth and quality, sparking fierce competition among the attacking options at the club.

Amongst other names Gold dropped was Everton star Anthony Gordon and Wolves speedster Adama Traore. But amongst these options, the ‘unplayable‘ Newcastle star is certainly the best and most exciting option.

Competition for places is always a good thing…usually makes the current incumbent buck their ideas up 🤣 just between us, don’t tell the soon-to-be Missus CS.

How would Missus CzechSpur feel about the additional competition for places in the CS domain?

Anyone else convinced that the names muted as possible transfers to us are genuine? Me neither, Saint-Maximin and Gordon are 100% not coming to Spurs. One is a genuine star of the Premier League and one is potentially a future star. We would need £140m to even get the interest of the teams these boys are with, money we do not have. I wouldn’t mind if the players mentioned would fit in to our set up, I mean, do we need another forward? I’d take both but it shows pretty poor business acumen in buying Richarlison and Spence.

I think we have 2 outstanding talents, these were with us under Poch though and only one came in his tenure (Son). Since 2015 think about all the players City, Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool (even Arsenal) have bought who were potentially world class or in the blue chip category. Now, think about who we have signed, including this year. When you look at it like that it is embarrassing isn’t it? Are we genuinely trying to close the gap with Richarlison, who I like by he way, and Bissouma, as our only major signings? When the season finished did we all say “we need a utility forward and another DM”? There were more pressing issues in the back 5 for starters and a creative midfielder! When I look over the way to Arsenal, the signing of Zinchenko and Jesus looks to be well thought out. These are 2 players we definitely could have done with. I liked Perisic on Saturday, but Zinchenko has more going for him.

Spurs are so far behind we will be playing catch up with City, Chelsea, Utd and Liverpool for a long time to come. Hard to take, but the truth. Liverpool are not the same as the other 3 because they may well be a big European team but their owners do not throw money at the squad like the other teams. Liverpool are most like us, but they have been run far better, whereby they didn’t build a new stadium getting into a generational debt, they upgraded Anfield instead and invested in the team that went on to win trophies in an era dominated by Oil money. Yes, we may well take points off all these teams along the way but that doesn’t mean the status quo will change of who will win the trophies. And it is trophies we all want isn’t it? I’d take a League Cup this season which shows how bad things have come, a rewind to 2008, there’s progress! Back to square one in 15 years. Some fans are in the ‘4th place a Cup’ club because if you’re not in the Ch Lg what is the point? This is akin to the state of the country at the moment, we have to be appreciative for anything given to us. ‘Oooh a 5p drop in petrol, thank you Sir, very gracious Sir, do you want me to dance for you Sir?’

The real disparity between us and the top teams is the deadwood. We can barely get a team to buy any of it so are forced to loan them out and some are not even wanted (Winks). Lo Celso is the best of this lot, he helped his team get to a Ch Lg semi final last season, won the Copa America with Argentina yet no one will buy him! Fair play for getting Ndom out the door…….for the princely sum of £1m! It shows the monumental task at hand to clear this lot out and invest properly. Imagine Spurs putting Gallagher (I know he started v Leeds but West Ham and Everton both want him on loan) and Hudson Odoi out on loan. They would have been starters for us without a doubt. That is the embarrassment of riches Chelsea have, they can allow two top talents to leave and they” get £100m for the pair easily if they decided to sell, whilst threatening to spend over £300m in a single transfer window.

There is a caveat, a club has to be able to afford the money frittered away otherwise you end up like Everton. At the moment, we can’t afford to buy dud players like Ndom or Lo Celso, but could that money have been spent on 2 Premier League proven players instead, I think so? Calls to spend, spend, spend are all well and good but look what happened under Hitchen, arguably our worst signing in the history of the club. Arsenal have thrown half a billion at the team in the last few years, thankfully on rubbish, but Edu looks to be putting their house in fine order now. Their stadium is paid for too so they can continue to spend. I just wish Spurs would stop playing catch up, but Liverpool fans actually say the same because they cannot compete with the big 3 spenders. A sobering thought indeed, the fan is never happy.

He’s happy at Newcastle, he’s their most important player, they have no reason to sell him, and we would probably bid 20M + Winks. Other than that, sure, why not?

In other news, Alasdair Gold also confirmed that CzechSpur is a big fan of Alexandra Daddario, who would add a lot of depth, quality, and competition in his household.

Very exciting player on his day but totally inconsistent. If Anthony Gordon is worth £60 million, what would NUFC, a club that don’t need the money, unlike Everton, ask for him?

What a load of tosh. If we have offloaded Lo Celso, Ndombele and Gil that’s three men down on squad numbers so that means three additions before the window closes.

Why would Newcastle sell their most exciting player to us. Do they need the money?
