Ajax wants to give new lease of life to underperforming Tottenham ace this summer

Steven Bergwijn is attracting the attention of Ajax after he struggled for playing time at Tottenham last season.

The Dutchman was one of Tottenham’s first signings under Jose Mourinho after joining them from PSV at the start of 2020.

He was an exciting signing and scored some crucial goals for the Lilywhites, but he underperformed last season.

He was used less often and also failed to take the few chances handed to him by Mourinho.

Because of this, he missed out on a place in the Netherlands’ squad for Euro 2020 and the Daily Mail says he is keen to start playing regularly again.

The report further states he could get that with a switch to Ajax who wants to sign him, however, Tottenham doesn’t want to sell.

The Lilywhites want to keep him and see if he would be pivotal for their next manager. Ajax is keen, but the report says the Dutch side will have to pay the £27million that Spurs paid for his signature in 2020.

Ajax remains the biggest club in Holland and they will play in the Champions League next season, but they might struggle to pay that fee.

Tottenham will probably have a busy summer transfer window, but a lot would depend on who becomes their next manager and they are yet to name one.

I think we’re on the same page. Doherty clearly needed support (on and off field) to bed in and succeed, He has demonstrated he is a decent player .No problem with Danny Rose, he deserved a move if he wanted it , properly called the club out and has been treated atrociously by the club. Stevie B is indicative of the long term problem at the club. why do all these players fail to deliver consistently. When we do buy a good prospect like him or Lamela they invariably under achieve and paddle along in the sea of mediocrity around them.

Playing wingback with the wingback is not an easy feat and then going forward was never easy under Jose defending from jump. But yeah who cares about what happens on the field of play as long as we can pumpel Levy for not backing the manager. Nobody wants to hear from Danny Rose calling out the club and its average signing, but I see the same people here complaining 2 years later. Happy trails Danny, you are a great Spur.

All the required physical attributes, moments of brilliance yet no consistency and a failure to develop or progress ( often a deterioration Doherty)- a seemingly familiar trait amongst the majority of our squad. Only the self driven better players ever escape upwards ( carrick, berbatov, modric, bale, walker, and now probably kane & son) Our recruitment and coaching is lacking and I suspect the lack of on pitch ambition from Levy fosters a negative apathetic environment/atmosphere amongst the staff and squad.

Something happened after the Anfield game, as in the 433 we played upto then, the lad played exactly as Jose wanted and barring the finishing there were no real complaints. Then came the social media deletions and the training issues and he went off the boil. He could be a very good wingback imho if was worked on.
