Ajax make an enquiry about the availability of unsettled Tottenham star

By Bruce Grove -

Dutch giants Ajax have reportedly enquired about signing Davinson Sanchez this month as the Colombian struggles to impress Jose Mourinho.

He started this season as the first-choice centre-back at Tottenham but he lost his place in the team after the 3-3 draw against West Ham.

Mourinho has now used Joe Rodon and Toby Alderweireld ahead of him as defensive partners to Eric Dier.

The South American knows that he would need to do more to get back in the team, but he can also take an escape route and leave the club.

In a podcast by De Telegraaf via Voetbalzone, journalist, Mike Verweij reveals that Ajax enquired about signing the defender this month.

However, Tottenham isn’t looking to lose any of their players midway through the season and they turned them down.

Toby Alderweireld also has a history with the Dutch giants, and Verweij said Spurs will also not listen to offers for the Belgian this month.

He said: “Subsequently, a link was made with the Davinson Sánchez area, whether he was open to it. But Spurs won’t let anyone go; Not Sánchez and not Alderweireld”

Sanchez has the rest of this season to work his way back into the plans of Mourinho. If he doesn’t, then a new defender might be brought in when the summer transfer window opens, and he could be sold at that point.
