With all the focus on Tottenham’s search for a striker, today’s link to Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg came a bit out of the blue.
Sky Sports understands that we are going to try to bring the Denmark international in before the January window shuts at 11pm on Friday.
Although there is pessimism over our chances of getting a deal done in such little time – Southampton would be reluctant to lose their captain mid-season – there is general optimism about the prospect of Hojbjerg at Spurs.
While he is not somebody who is going to put bums in seats, the 24-year-old may have the right characteristics to balance out a midfield that will need defensive awareness, energy and tenacity to complement what Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele can offer – a gaping hole in the current squad.

£35m would be a snip for someone like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who offers a lot of tenacity and looks like he has something about him.

Sky Sports adds that Arsenal and Everton are also keen on Hojbjerg, whose contract at St Mary’s expires in June 2021, according to transfermarkt.com.

My only doubt about Bale is would he actually want to give up his golf in the sunshine. Is he up for a new challenge or is he coasting to the end of his career? I also remember something about a banner where he listed his career priorities as 1. Wales International team, 2 Golf, 3 Real Madrid. I think he said that was a joke, but as someone said no one was laughing at Real Madrid, his employers.

Levy’s negotiating tactics in the transfer market consist of low ball offers, alongside lengthy instalments and offering dead wood Spurs players in part exchange. They do not achieve anything but to exasperate the selling club. These tactics might have worked years ago when clubs did not receive the Sky money they do now but clubs can afford to ignore Levy’s low ball offers and would prefer to deal with any other club. If Levy really was the great businessman many fans believe him to be, he would have appointed the right personnel to conduct our transfer business. Instead, we are treated to an orgy of press speculation, orchestrated by Levy’s minions, that we are chasing the top players which are always palpably untrue. Not having an adequate back up for Kane is utter negligence by the board. There is no other PL club who employs the services of one striker. Utterly pathetic.
And if he has ambition and wants to play for massive Tottenham? No we are not going to allow you to go there. We are going to SEND you to another club for less money. OK then
I think its safe to say this lad would be good for us – which loosely translates to we will not get him, Levy will under bid, and the holding club hate doing business with Levy anyway, so they would rather sell for less to someone else – This statement could be used in every transfer window with most clubs in Europe – I think it is especially prevalent here.
