‘…a little advice’ 1980’s Spurs Legend Offers Levy A Compelling Lifeline

By The Boy -

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has urged Daniel Levy to get rid of Cristian Stellini and bring in Mauricio Pochettino before the end of the season.

The 51-year-old Argentine manager is currently without a job, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for a struggling Tottenham side.

Despite the departure of Antonio Conte, Tottenham continue to put in underwhelming performances, and Stellini, who has been put in charge of the first team on an interim basis, has struggled to change things around.

Stellini continues to persist with Antonio Conte’s defensive approach, and Tottenham are clearly struggling because of that.

Pochettino’s high-intensity attacking football could lift the spirits around the club, and he could get the best out of underperforming players like Son Heung-Min and Richarlison as well.

Crooks believes that Pochettino could make a big difference at Tottenham and he could seal a long-term contract with the North London club if he manages to guide them to Champions League qualification this season.

“This can’t go on. Tottenham’s season is falling apart. They have sacked Antonio Conte for telling the truth about his team and the culture of the club, and installed coach Cristian Stellini as interim manager because chairman Daniel Levy hasn’t got a clue what to do next,” he told BBC Sport.

“Well, permit me to give him a little advice: install Mauricio Pochettino immediately to bolster the fans and reassure the players on a contract until the end of the season. If he can secure Spurs a top-four spot he gets a big, fat bonus and a two-year contract and enough time to win a trophy or he’s gone. Is that difficult?”

With top four qualification at stake, Tottenham cannot continue to gamble with Stellini who is clearly an unproven manager at this level. Pochettino has shown his quality in the Premier League before and he would certainly be an upgrade.

Furthermore, the Argentine has a strong bond with some of the key Tottenham players and the fans. He helped Tottenham challenge for the league title and the Champions League during his previous spell at the club.
