Davinson Sanchez managed to get himself 27 minutes against Leeds United on Sunday, and it was an assured performance.
If we take a look at the overarching statistic of total successful actions, the Colombian only put his foot wrong on three occasions.
As far as passing accuracy is concerned, he may have only made a handful of passes, but his achieved rate of 100% ought not to be derided. Loss of possession by defenders is an absolute no-no. Yes, it will happen, but the value of defenders who can reliably retain possession is not to be underestimated.
When it came to duels won, Davinson only failed to come out on top.
This shot assist allowed Lucas Moura to get away on goal, but the Brazilian blasted wide.
Whilst this was only a cameo, it looks as if Antonio Conte has got another Spur player back on the right track.
More, please.
I agree, and would go so far as to say if he’s coached right I see him in time as our most likely best defender.
I also noted another well timed sliding tackle which got the ball so he has the makings of a baller just lacks concentration maybe.
Most welcome insight. I think the fans at the ground have a newly discovered sense of worth. Fair play 👍
Amenski!
I found the booing interesting too. Seems the fans are not willing to put up with any more dross. This bodes ill for anyone not doing their job on or off the field.
Agreed H. An impressive cameo from Davinson and noticeably shored up the defence, which was much needed at that stage. More please!
Yes that did seem to be a tactic, but there were too many slow, lazy, telegraphed passes, they seemingly thought ‘fizz’ was banned & not only in their drinks?
I thought he made us more solid when he came on, he definitely gave it the old 110%. As a recently outed Sanchez-hater I’m more than happy to give him another chance to prove himself if he shows this level of effort!
On a different note, I was at the game and the “booing off at half time” was interesting.
IMO it was directly caused by several events in quick succession… we had just gone one down, then about 1:30 into injury time we had a decent counter attack opportunity, Ben Davis got the ball and rather than playing an obvious forward pass, lazily rolled it to Dier while half the rest of the team were bombing on, this caused a ripple of boos, then Dier rolled it back to Lloris, which intensified things.
I’m not entirely convinced there would have been any booing at all if it wasn’t for that one poor pass decision from Davies! (even though they totally deserved it anyway)
Another interesting thing to keep your eyes out for… when they play it out from the back, the instruction seems clearly to be to fizz it in fast to feet to someone (usually Kane) in the centre circle, who is presumably supposed to have runners going past him so he can make a crafty flick on as they go by.
Problem is as it stands they are bloody hopeless at it! Hopefully this will come with practice as it actually seems like it has promise if they could execute it properly!
Everyone seems to hate Sanchez but I think there’s a strong, fast athletic player in there that can push the ball forward and take out an attacker when necessary. He just needs a reliable partner on the wing, a natural left footed CB on his left and a good coach and then he can replicate his early success at Spurs playing with Jan and Walker under Poch.
He was aggressive. The best compliment I can give him for that 27 minutes, He used his head.
