Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn eyes a change of scenery. The 24-year-old has yet to find consistent playing time under manager Antonio Conte, and with the FIFA World Cup coming later this year, Bergwijn is open to a departure.

In an interview with the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, Bergwijn discussed his prospects with the north London since the transfer window opens next month.

“A place in the starting lineup? Here? I honestly don’t think so. The attack works well, but I don’t get to play much,” Bergwijn said. The Tottenham forward hopes to “see what is best for both parties,” and at the end of the season, “it’s important to me that I’m going to get to play now.”

Bergwijn has played only 511 minutes this season in the Premier League, with his 22 appearances including only four starts. Only one start has come under Conte.

This past January, Ajax had their bid rejected for the winger, and in recent months, AC Milan has expressed interest in Bergwijn as they look to get younger in the forward group.

Since arriving in 2020, Bergwijn has appeared in 80 fixtures, scoring eight goals and recording ten assists. The Netherlands international is under contract until 2025, and Transfermarkt puts his transfer value at £16-million.

Perhaps Cont should have tried him as a wing back? Couldn’t be any worse than the clowns in those positions now.

He’s probably better than what we have seen of him, but he just hasn’t ‘clicked’ here and I think he’s a winger not a striker, so yet another squad member who should move on.

I’m sure his best football was under Mourinho.
Wasn’t part of his role to cover the right side I think he got injured and it all went to pot.
His finishing generally is poor so I guess one of him or Lucas needs to be shipped out and Conte seems to prefer Lucas.
