Kevin Phillips is convinced that Tottenham knows what Antonio Conte wants in terms of transfers because he discussed it with them before he even took the job.
He was responding to a revelation by Fabio Paratici that Spurs haven’t discussed January transfer targets with their new manager via The Daily Mail.
Former Sunderland man, Phillips, reckons Conte wouldn’t have taken the job without reaching some sort of agreement on transfer targets with the club.
Phillips told Football Insider: “We’re not daft.
“I’m sure when you get someone in who has the calibre of Conte, he will have said ‘this is what I want, what I demand, and what I expect’.
“Him, Levy, and Paratici would have 100% talked about transfer targets. There’s no doubt that Nuno would have put a list in ahead of January. Maybe Conte has had a look at that list to see if there is anything he likes.
“You can’t say that they haven’t talked about transfers. The squad is decent, but it’s not fantastic. They do need to add to it in order to challenge for European football.
“I’d be very surprised if Conte doesn’t earmark two or three players for January.”
The Boy Hotspur Says
Spurs undoubtedly have some of the Premier League’s finest players. However, whether they all suit Conte’s system is another issue entirely.
The Italian is experienced enough to know exactly what he wants and he would have a good look at his current options to find the best players for each position.
If he cannot find the right fit for certain positions, he would ask for players to fill that void.
This all points to Tottenham continuously strengthening their squad despite splashing money in the summer.
Conte might not spend much in the January transfer window, but he would have a better understanding of the club’s situation by the end of the campaign.

He did not say they did not talk. Paratici, basically say lets get him in the door first to try and put the nose of the plane up.
I am convinced we will land a big fish in Jan.
