“Let’s not lie here” These Spurs fans not impressed by new boy

Tottenham fans had been excited to watch Emerson Royal debut after he joined the club late into the last transfer window.

The Brazilian moved to London from Barcelona and Tottenham ended the contract of Serge Aurier.

He is now expected to become the club’s first-choice right-back and to feature ahead of Matt Doherty.

Emerson updated the club’s fans on his progress as he began life in London before the game.

Most fans were excited to watch him play and Nuno Espirito Santo selected him for the match against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

A red card for Japhet Tanganga saw Tottenham capitulate late in the game and the Eagles won 3-0.

That result ended Spurs perfect start to the season and pushed them off the top of the Premier League table.

The club still took time to celebrate the Brazilian’s debut on Twitter, but not all Tottenham fans were happy with that and they let them know in the comments.

Nuno needs time of course, but that was worrying.. Winks and Davies shouldn’t be anywhere near the first team. Seriouslyweak links. Nuno should know this by now… Toby and Verts never gave away penalties for handballs like that, they either had hands and arms behind their back, or made sure their feet legs or head did the blocking. I know semi pro and amateur defenders that have more defensive savvy…… There was no formation or personnel change. When the 💩 hits the fan then any true manager comes to life. Pep, Conte, Klopp, Jose, Sir Alex would be on the touchline screaming, shouting instructions, motivating the team with fire and passion like a war general …. Then there’s ‘managers’ that do nothing, the likes of Southgate, Roy Hodgson actually retreat into a shell. Sat in the dug out looking confused and worried as the game passes by…. NES has to do better.

Winks was valued at 36 million by transfermarket around 2019… He’s now valued at 18 mil… I would say hes worth 10 mil…. Emerson will be fine, I can see the lad can defend. He’s strong. He’s more defensive minded than Docherty or Aurier. Never easy making a debut with a man down and Zaha running at him. Zaha causes everyone problems when his tail is up.

Agree with the first part. But for the set-up… I reckon Nuno sussed this would be a hard fought London Derby… without a few 1st team players… and so he set out a defensive formation to suck-up that first half hectic play… with the intention of putting on a creative player when things opened up sometime in the latter half.

The way the Sh*t hit the fan, though, there was never really the right moment to add Ndumbo or Little Cruyff.

I wasn’t a great fan of the Nuno appointment… but he’s made a decent stab of things with a poor hand so far. He doesn’t deserve heavy stick from the fans until he’s done a lot more than lose a game after his 5th pick CD gets sent off and and 6th pick CD gives away a penalty.

A second class acquisition by a board with second-rate footballing ambition. Exemplifies exactly why they couldn’t attract Conte.

Not sure how with the list of mistakes, mismanagement and poor performances on Saturday for Tottenham anyone would start or get around to pointing the finger at Emerson.

Asinine knee jerk reaction from a few emotionally incontinent so-called ‘fans’. It was a difficult debut for Emerson and for the most part he had a decent game. Zaha is a tricky opponent and once we went down to 10 men it was always going to be harder, as Zaha had more space to run at him one on one. This baptism of fire will hopefully stand the boy in good stead as he becomes more accustomed to the pace and physicality of the EPL.

Emerson never played for Barcelona…!! A Real Betis man who was on Barcelona’s books. I hear the cash strapped Catalans couldn’t believe it when a 30million cheque arrived when they were expecting 13 mill. Obviously something lost in the translation.

Fair Price for Harry Winks imho would be between £10-15m? Certainly not the £40m quoted which is totally unrealistic. Seems like we should give our new boy Emerson Royal a little more than just the one match to judge him by especially with the set up within the team on the day. What was Nuno thinking? Particularly Winks and Skipp as partners in a vacuum of creativity at it’s core and the evident lack of energy “running” through virtually the whole team. Anyway, I like the Royal with Emerson as it reminds me of Pulp Fiction for non-vegetarian reasons.
