Mourinho was right about Alli he just needs to convince Levy – opinion

Dele Alli is one of those players that no matter how poorly he plays over an extended period of time some still clamour for him to be selected.

Every time Tottenham drop points and Alli is omitted from the starting XI some pundits and fans alike almost immediately scream for his alleged creativity and game-changing abilities to be brought back into the fold.

Well, yet again last night he was given ample time (40 minutes) to make a difference and he did not and why anyone would be surprised defies reason.

Alli has been inconsistent for a good couple of years, he has had the odd moment but he is a lazy player that rarely tracks back and has lost that spark he had in his earlier years at the club.

Mourinho rightfully called him out about his laziness and Alli’s response, for the most part, was to take on the Mesut Ozil tactic of looking for the right PR image and childish social media comments.

The manager clearly does not fancy him and probably would not have objected to him being sold in the recently closed transfer window but the same cannot be said of Daniel Levy.

It appears that Levy detests the idea of Alli going for anything less than top dollar and that is a fair attitude to have if you deep down honestly believe that the 24-year-old will somehow recapture his old form, Levy must surely believe that.

You see, if Levy does not believe that then Alli should have been sold already which now begs the question, is the Chairman deluding himself?

I suspect he is, I have zero confidence that we will see the old Alli once again, Poch could not get it from him in his final six months and Mourinho certainly has not, so why does Levy seem so determined in his belief that Alli will retain his value?

I cannot answer that question but it is now incumbent on Mourinho to persuade Levy that Alli must be sold and whatever funds are raised from his sale reinvested straight back into the squad.

As the headline states, in my opinion, Mourinho was right about Alli he just needs to convince Levy.

He is valued 108 million at transfermarket.co,uk right now.. His ankle injuries dropped his value slightly.. As he gets older 28 plus then we will see it steadily decline each year.

Hate his guts. He alone is culpable for the state we’re in and mark my words there’s no easy fix to this. The rebuild will take proper money. I have zero faith in him spending the required money, getting the right players in or efficiently getting rid of the dead wood. Our recruitment business is a mess.

I found the hype around the summer transfer window and the business we did as concerning at the time, because I saw nothing of any real substance at all. It turns out I may have been right.

Those still with your tongues still stuck up Levy’s a*se, you might want to think again…

Levy has no idea where the team is heading and nor does he care. As long as the property development is ticking the boxes he’ll be sleeping like a baby. He’s a complete fraud of a chairman, masquerading as someone who has clear footballing ambitions. His only ambition is to keep stuffing the duffel bag and shuttling back and forth to the Bahamas. How long a=has this been going on? 22 years now?

Even though they didn’t play well, tt wasn’t the subs fault. None of our defenders were substituted- they and the goalkeeper were all dreadful.

Totally agree with you. Alli is the new Aaron Lennon, bags of talent, but believes his own publicity. Spurs don’t need an overpaid, ineffective player- we already have far too many of them in this squad of losers

Something around the infamous five mill that we paid MK Dons for him would be good business.

Contrast with the England rugby team who bring on the big hit finishers for the last 20 minutes. We brought on Sissoko, Winks and Dele. Not exactly scarey, are they?

Right now Spurs look like they are a Championship side. Alli does not help this. But, then, neither do Bale, etc. When I see Mourhino it looks like he has run out of ideas. He has the same look on his face that Poch did, in the end. Not good.

I think the thing that turned the game in Everton’s favour last night was the subs. All of their’s made a difference to the team’s performance whereas ours seemed to drag the performance level down a notch or two.
The Everton subs wanted to win the game yet ours just seemed happy to stroll around the pitch for a while. Our bench is still full of players who are not game changers and aren’t fit for purpose.
Even kane, although he tried was off the pace and wasted a few good scoring opportunities. He is not a good freekick taker as I mentioned earlier we need a playmaker who can dictate play and also has that in his locker.

I must admit I expected more from him last night. Don’t accept the he was injured rubbish. Kane was injured and look what he did at the weekend and last night the same for Coleman. I think we need to rid ourselves of alli and winks in the summer however that is two homegrown players so the same must come in. Alli showed nothing to say last night he wants to play for us did very little even got booked for diving which pleased me. I think he is turning or has turned into another Danny boy. Sell him and winks get greelish.

I’m done at the moment all I have left in my locker is
“Cut off the head of the snake”
Everything he gets involved in fails in the end.

If Mourinho truly thinks Ali is completely hopeless and has nothing positive to offer, as you claim, then why play him at all? Are you suggesting our manager is just Levy’s puppet?

All their subs did, but Coleman was a man possessed. They wanted to win. I have just posted that Sissoko, Vinicius, Winks and Dele collectively did nothing of any note apart from be awful. I wasn’t even convinced by Kane. He showed more endeavor than the others but he lacked the quality that Everton showed when it was needed. His goal was unmissable, but he missed a sitter and fluffed some chances that you need your best player to score from.

He showed absolutely no endeavour when he came on. Seamus Coleman has been injured too and made a massive difference to Everton when he came on.

Agreed. There are several further down the line of needing rid of. Stand up Mr Sanchez for example.
