Danny Rose is a loudmouth but Tottenham just may need him next season

Danny Rose has developed a reputation as a loudmouth and a bit of a cry baby who may have talked himself out of ever playing for Tottenham again.

He fell out with the club last season and he had to spend the second half of the campaign away on loan at Newcastle United.

He has now returned from that loan spell after the Magpies decided not to make the loan move permanent.

Having seemingly burned his bridges, the left-back might need to find a new team this season to continue his career, however, due to Coronavirus and the financial situation at Tottenham, there may be a way back for Rose.

Rose has done more talking than playing football in recent seasons, but the full-back is still half-decent in a position that Tottenham is understaffed in.

It is unfortunate that his off-field antics have overshadowed his football and if he gets his head down and focusses on his game he could arguably challenge the inconsistent Ben Davies for the left-back spot.

The defender might struggle to find a team that will pay him what he is on at Spurs right now and he has recently admitted that he would like to wear a Spurs shirt once again (Football365).

Right now, Davies is our only recognizable left-back and we have allowed Jan Vertonghen, who can play there, to leave.

Spurs simply do not have an abundance of money right now and it could well be that the best option for everyone concerned is to reintegrate Rose back into the squad, even if it would leave a sour taste to see him back.

Depends really, but he was at least being honest. Although as I say, it was straight after Walker got his move. Not all players get these dream moves, I can’t believe I’m even saying a move to Citeh is a dream move from Spurs, however Walker’s accountant might differ! 😂

We don’t know exactly what was going on in dannys mind.. All he did was come out and tell the truth… Which alot of us already knew… I would have thought you would be happy with player unrest and speaking out against the powers that be. ENIC OUT will never happen if players aren’t allowed to talk about serious dysfunction in our club. Rather than bang on about trophies, Rose was more annoyed that him and other starters were earning a quarter of the wage of other english players who didn’t even start for their clubs. As a spurs player how embarrassing it must be to go away on national duty to find loads of younger lads behind you in the pecking order, half as good as you, but earning twice the money… Someone had to say something.. People will listen to rose more than the likes of you and myself.. Fair shout to the man…. Far better than the likes of the oh so professional Tintin the great pain.. Said nothing. Then said he wanted a ‘new challenge’ but there would be ‘nothing bad’ about staying!…. Give me an honest person and player like rose over mugs like tintin any day..

Depression is a terrible thing.. Its a killer in fact.. It’s never affected him on that pitch though… I’m not sure if the toon didn’t want him after no takeover, or if he didn’t want them 😆

Money rules the game now. The best, the winners don’t come cheap.. Fair shout to leicester for breaking the duct and managing to win the prem without spending a fortune.

Our longest servant. He would get a testimonial match too if he stayed another year.

At least we have a shiny stadium and some memories of ‘nearly’ winning hey? I understand the ‘in the future, we’ll be massive’ vibe, but nothing is guaranteed. Look at Man Utd, we can’t dream of their wealth and £1bn of spending since Fergie left has got them just a League Cup, FA Cup and Europa League.

I’d keep him. He can be brilliant, he can be crap, but is that not our way? I won’t diss him for his comments as no-one knows the context he was talking in and the media spin it whichever way they want to anyway – so context always goes out of the window. On the pitch though, yeah, why would we get rid of him – home grown too which helps – even if he’s only on the bench.

I always hoped we would attract these types when we were in the CL for 4 years.. Buying rubbish and the two years neglect has screwed us bad.

Cavani was on a free too.. I would have loved him partnering and rotating with Kane.

Modric admitted he hated Levy for breaking promises repeatedly and blocking chelseas moves… Remember before modders left he downed tools at one point. So he wasn’t completely professional….. Personally I think players should be allowed to say what they want. Rose only told the truth, when wantaway flakes like eriksen lie and contradict and pretend everythings fine… I applaud Danny for being refreshingly honest. Honest player, honest guy. We are supposed to be living in democracy. It would be weird if all players were gagged and silenced.

Not being in the Ch Lg stops us getting these players. Watching Coutinho in the last two games for Bayern, albeit as a sub, shows what quality he and the other players in that team have, Thiago included. They would only make us stronger. The mistake was not getting these proven players in when we had the opportunity 3 seasons ago. We had taken that step with gambling with potential and it was time to take the step up. Some fans might have said it would have upset team dynamics, but I would have taken that gamble, because where we are now is not where we should be.

I read an extract from the upcoming autobiography of Luka Modric and he was scathing about the clubs lack of ambition. Only difference to Rose is Modric kept his opinions on the club and the chairman to himself.

Even in this strange market nobody seems to mentions what a steal Thiago of Bayern is at 29M.I can’t believe Liverpool are apparently the only club in for him.
He would be great for us.If N’Dumdbell is worth 200K/week Thiago certainly is.

Rose said a long time ago he was going to see out his contract with us. His agent would have known if there were suitors so if there isn’t a better offer Rose will sit on his contract. The club made a call to loan him out, therefore if Jose doesn’t want him I would do the same. I have stated he is better than Davies, but if he wasn’t in the plans from January he won’t be now.

I suspect that the fans, myself included, might be rather more forgiving than the club hierarchy. In my opinion Danny was our best player in the underwhelming Champion’s League final against Liverpool and is still good enough to play for us. However, his motormouth antics, questioning the club’s ambition, have certainly not endeared him to Levy, nor one suspects, Mourinho. Accordingly, I somewhat doubt whether he will be re-integrated into the first team squad, in spite of it being an obvious position of need..

I thought the Barcodes were going to sign him.
I feel sorry for him I remember a story coming out years back saying Rose has definite mental problems.
Had some great games for us but dont just stick around like a bad smell Dan.

Fair point. I don’t have a lot of time for Rose. He spoke some truths about the ambition of the club when he blabbed to the papers but it was clearly mainly motivated by Walker’s move to Citeh.

He wanted the same, the part that he forgot is that Pep needed a right back and a homegrown one. These were a specific set of circumstances but it seems Rose never recovered from the reality of seeing Walker winning trophies on 200k a week. Life would never be the same for Danny.

He was on course to be a minor legend at the club, or a cult fan’s favourite…but it all went to pot. A genuine shame, just needed to keep his head down, but when you have millionaire players who are powerful/influential people in their own right plus a culture of player power…

If Jose doesn’t want to work with him I do worry, he has history of freezing players out – and then that’s the worst thing for everyone concerned.

Just seem that available/affordable full backs are thin on the ground.
