Tottenham goal problems will continue even if they sign a back up to Harry Kane | Opinion

A lot of the transfer news surrounding Spurs this summer revolves around the club wanting to sign a new backup striker to Harry Kane.

Kane is one of the best strikers in the world and his absence for a long period of time during the last season coincided with a poor run of form for the Lilywhites.

The Englishman had Fernando Llorente as a backup before last season, but the Spaniard left last summer and he wasn’t replaced.

Spurs struggled with that decision and Jose Mourinho wants to correct that in this transfer window.

The truth is that no good striker will join Tottenham at the moment, this is because they know full well that they will be playing second fiddle to Kane.

This is an issue that Victor Osimhen’s agent pointed out (Goal) before the Nigerian joined Napoli instead.

Spurs have continued to be linked with the likes of Arkaduisz Milik, Callum Wilson and Serhou Guirassy.

Any of these strikers will be a good addition to the team as a backup, the problem is that none of them has the goals that Kane has in him.

Milik scored 11 times in 26 league games for Napoli, Guirassy scored 9 times in 23 league games for Amiens, while Wilson scored 8 times in 35 league games for Bournemouth.

These numbers are not that bad but they are not as prolific as Kanes and unless a second striker is bought that can match the England captains numbers Spurs will suffer in his absence.

The bottom line is that losing Kane to injury or suspension will be costly, no matter who is signed unless we spend a huge amount of money, which is not going to happen.

We were a top 4 club now top 6 we should have two.out and out strikers end of. I we do well in the cups it’s so many games . If we are 3-0 up sub Kane if it’s a weak team in a cup game sub Kane it’s all rather easy to manage and see to most of us. The players spoken about will get more chances in pur team ,if the band in a few goals they will be flying ,,in a new big club massive stadium etc etc. Oh and let’s think that Kane gets injured and is out for 9 weeks we have this new very happy hard working striker as well as son moura etc as an option. Let’s face it it’s totally makes sense.

Agree, as previously a season or two back, Son had covered for Kane the goals wasn’t an issue. If I recall there were calls for Kane not to be rushed back as the team was playing well even without him.

Why does another striker have to be back up? How about play beside or instead of HK in the 60 odd games in 4 or 5 comps we will be playing in. Peeps and the MSM should stop saying back up and change it to alternative or partner or something.

Has Joe Hart ever played CF?
Probably as mobile as Llorente.

I’ll say it again, but Danny Ings would be ideal imo, his form last season was outstanding, no doubt he would take some convincing in what the club is aiming for, but I dont see a better option. The club has to realise they need an alternative to Harry, the injuries he has suffered should tell him and everyone else that. He can only benefit from not having to play every game , otherwise the inevitable will happen and it’s back to square one.

Our issue last year was when Kane and Son were injured we were found wanting. Would Callum Wilson have got us the 7 points needed to get in the Ch Lg if we had him last term? I am not convinced he would have. If he hadn’t been relegated would we want him? I’d rather have Pukki. The options up top should not be like this, all blame is solely on Levy, but we have to live with this broken record. To bring on a ‘body’ to give Kane a rest or start a ‘body’ to give Kane a rest still requires quality, otherwise Parrot would have been fine. Funny how Utd have found two 18 yr old gems in Rashford and Greenwood, yet we can’t find anyone in the world. The job to find that ‘body’ is our highly proficient (I do make myself laugh) scouting team. Good luck to them.

If all goes according to plan we could play 60 odd game next season. We’ll be lucky if Kane is fit for half

I don’t agree, we can score goals without Kane. We suffered badly because all our goalscorers were out at the same time. Sons absence was felt as badly as Kane’s
