Stefan Savic is happy at Atlético Madrid amid “speculation” linking him with a summer move to Tottenham, according to his agent, with Todofichajes valuing the player at some €15million.
Spanish media outlet Todofichajes.com reported last month that Savic was on Jose Mourinho’s shortlist of potential Jan Vertonghen replacements.
However, the Montenegro international’s representative has suggested to Tuttomercarto in Italy that his client intends to see out his contract at Atletico, after regaining his place in the team at the start of 2020.
Savic’s agent Zarko Pelicic is quoted as saying: “He has a contract until 2023, and he is very proud to wear the Atlético shirt. In the past there were links with Juventus, but it is all just speculation and rumours.”
The one-time Manchester City flop, now 29, had fallen down Diego Simeone’s pecking order at the beginning of this season but started eight games in a row prior to lockdown, including both legs of Atlético’s Champions League victory over Liverpool.
The prospect of signing Savic never appealed to me, but our list of successors for Jan seems to be shortening by the day with Fabrizio Romano also ruling Verona defender Marash Kumbulla out of the running.
Who would you like to see us target to replace Vertonghen?

I’d like to look lower down the Leagues if moneys short. Andy Robertson was playing for Hull. The Premier League has numerous players that came from unfashionable clubs. So put the work in, sometimes it’s too easy to get the cheque book out and you end up with some of the duds we have.
