Tottenham are reportedly willing to part with defender Juan Foyth for a meagre £8m this summer.
The Argentine has been open about the possibility of leaving Spurs due to a lack of first-team opportunities – he has only featured three times since Jose Mourinho’s arrival last November.
Daniel Levy might usually smell this as an opportunity to set a hefty asking price and test the waters with Foyth’s potential suitors, but Football Insider understands the chairman is merely happy to get his money back on a player who cost Spurs £8m in 2017, according to the Daily Mail.
This would be a rare concession from Levy whose opening valuations are notoriously high, when selling at least. As the London Evening Standard details, he initially wanted £17m for a crocked Victor Wanyama and priced him out of a move to Club Brugge.
Foyth may not have made the grade at Spurs but his growth at international level, where he has come a regular for Argentina, has enhanced his reputation across the continent, and Levy could use that to drive his price up closer to or beyond his £12.15m valuation on transfermarkt.com.
I hope this is true and Levy’s sensible approach to selling persists over the summer. We need money coming in to boost Jose’s recruitment pot, not overpriced assets sitting on the sidelines.

At least we’ll get the money back. What was the point in investing £10 million in Jack Clark who can’t get a game in the Championship?
If we were buying him I bet we would be laughed out the board room for suggesting £8m. Here is a lad not in the manager’s plans, why can’t we just put him out on loan, see if he improves, like Danny Rose at Sunderland? Selling so cheaply makes little sense. £8m is not a lot in the grand scheme of things.
He won’t be letting him go for £8m without a “Santa. If he can get the same clause as Marcus’s he’s done well
