Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly conceded that Steven Bergwijn’s season could be over.
Spurs have suffered with injuries to key players in recent weeks, with Harry Kane, Heung Min-Son and Moussa Sissoko all sidelined.
After being seen limping after the draw with Burnley at the weekend, BBC Sport note that Bergwijn is now set to join them in the treatment room.
Further, it’s reported that Mourinho has suggested that the 22-year-old may not play again this season due to the severity of the sprain.
The Dutchman had bagged two goals in five Premier League appearances since his January switch from PSV Eindhoven, and particularly with Kane and Son already out, he took up an important role for Mourinho.
However, the Tottenham boss will now have to find an alternative solution in the final third as they prepare to face RB Leipzig in the second leg of their round-of-16 Champions League tie on Tuesday night with a 1-0 deficit to overturn.
There was some positive news on Monday though, with Kane posting an update as he stepped up his recovery from his own injury blow this week, as noted by Sky Sports.
With Bergwijn also now ruled out, Tottenham’s talismanic captain’s return could be a much-needed boost for all concerned.
Can’t help but think the Kane video is more ENIC spin to give the abused fans some forlorn hope that he will be back before the season finishes.I would rather Kane doesn’t rush back as history tells us it doesn’t end well,especially with even less help available up front.The trouble is his vanity wants him to compete in the Euros.
