Tottenham Hotspur waved off Christian Eriksen via Twitter at 1.30pm after his transfer to Inter Milan was officially confirmed.
Like Davina McCall dismissing an evicted Big Brother housemate, @SpursOfficial posted a video compilation of Eriksen’s best bits.
The video was accompanied by the message: “Thank you for the memories, @ChrisEriksen8. All the best at Inter.”
Then just 15 minutes later, Tottenham’s official channel posted a video titled: “Giovani Lo Celso’s best bits!”
Coincidence? Nope. The permanent signing of Lo Celso, who had been on loan, was confirmed in a joint statement that went out to announce Eriksen’s exit.
The video came with the caption: “We look forward to more of this, @LoCelsoGiovani!”
Lo Celso is seen by many as the natural successor to Eriksen’s throne as King Creator.
And Eriksen’s exit could be just what Lo Celso needs to help thrust him into a position of importance and challenge him to emuluate the Dane.
The Lo Celso love-in continued on the channel moments later when @SpursOfficial shared a quote from Son Heung-min.
It read: “He likes to work, he likes to run and he likes to have the ball. It’s really nice to have team-mates like that and I’m really honoured to play with him in this team.”
Spurs had earlier written in a statement on their official website: “We are delighted to announce that we have exercised the option to convert the loan of Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis Balompie to a permanent transfer.
“Gio has signed a contract with the Club until 2025.”

Great interview with Trip’s on the BBC, I did notice in his list of good managers, Dyche gets a mention but Poch does not. It is a not so veiled attack on Spurs while he was there.
Maybe we could announce “Tanganga” – signed from our U23’s 🙂 “like a new signing”……
Champagne player for shandy money. Good work. More of that calibre please.
