Eurosport believes that Southampton’s Danny Ings could transfer to Tottenham this summer. This suggestion comes against a background of speculation, based upon his want-away quotes.
GAME TIME: If Ings is looking for Champions League football, then he’s highly unlikely to get even the merest sniff of it even if Tottenham were to qualify again. The idea of a striker additional to Harry Kane at Spurs is to stop the England captain wasting his time taking to the field in early rounds of cups and other games perceived as minor.
ALREADY PASSED HIM UP ONCE: According to numerous sources, including the Telegraph’s Sam Wallace, Ings was looked at by Tottenham last summer, before securing a loan move for Carlos Vinicius, instead.
AGE: At 29, Spurs needs to be thinking about the future. Harry Kane is 27 and Sonny is 28. It would be prudent to have a solid heir to Spurs’ striking throne in the pipeline, opposed to another problem that needs fixing.
LACK OF LUST: Ings has been kicking around for some time as a maybe-man for a number of clubs. Nobody has bitten, so now we are witnessing Saints being held a little hostage.
OPINION: He does a job, as does a Lada. It’s a polite no-thanks, from me.
