29-year-old’s days at the club are ‘numbered’ after frank meeting with manager

By Mehdi Gokal -

Eric Dier held a meeting with Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou ahead of the January transfer window.

That’s according to Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel, who claims that manager Ange Postecoglou has bluntly communicated Dier’s position within the team, an honesty that the defender reportedly appreciate.

But he also claims that things haven’t been as smooth between Dier and Levy behind the scenes who had a ‘frosty’ meeting earlier this year, suggesting that his days at the club are ‘numbered’.

Dier has failed to impress Ange Postecoglou and has not only lost his place in the starting XI but also fallen down the pecking order.

The club signed Micky van de Ven in the summer and since then Romero and him have formed a formidable partnership at the back.

However, Micky van de Ven has suffered a hamstring injury vs Chelsea which will see him sidelined for the foreseeable future meanwhile Romero is currently serving a 3 game ban and will be unavailable for their next game as well.

Despite this, Dier has remained out of favor with Ange Postecoglou preferring right back Emerson Royal as a makeshift centre-back over him against Aston Villa.

If there were any doubts in his mind about his position in the team under Ange, being dropped against Villa would clear them up.

Daniel Levy reportedly wants to sell him in January in order to get some cash for him rather than lose him for free in the summer.

But Dier would only leave in January if there is a tempting proposition with the likes of Bayern said to be interested in him.

He could also opt to run down his contract and leave on a free in the summer where he might have more opportunities to negotiate a better deal for himself.
