26-year-old unlikely to be at Spurs next season after failing to impress Postecoglou – manager ‘does not trust him’

According to The Athletic, Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon is unlikely to be at Tottenham Hotspur next season.

He started the friendly against West Ham during their 3-2 defeat and while he showed promising signs going forward, defensively he looked vulnerable.

It was previously reported by El Confidencial that Ange Postecoglou ‘does not trust him’, As per the report by The Athletic, his performance against the Hammers ‘did not do much to dispel the doubts’ around him.

Reguilon’s career has faced challenges since his loan spell at Atletico Madrid, where he struggled to impress due to injuries and a lack of trust from manager Diego Simeone.

The Spanish left-back also faced criticism from fans due to his past association with Real Madrid.

Although Reguilon has a contract with Tottenham until 2025, the club reportedly wants to sell him.

Despite joining Spurs from Madrid for €30 million and enjoying a decent first season, he has not been able to impress previous managers like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

The report suggests that Reguilon is hoping for a move to another club in La Liga to help revitalise his career.

Tottenham will have Destiny Udogie and Ryan Sessegnon as options for the left-back role, however, the latter will not be available for the start of the season having gone a surgery on his recurring hamstring problem.

Whether the manager sticks with what he has or brings in a new signing for the left-back role remains to be seen.
