I met Terry Baker once. It was in New Brighton on the Wirral.
Baker is the agent of and will still be long after their deaths both Jimmy Greaves and Paul Gascoigne.
Baker occupies saggy poly mix suits that stopped being sold about 25years ago. As I spoke to him, his furtive beady eyes flickered across the room like an extra in Minder looking out for old bill or worse yet, a creditor.
Jimmy Greaves live was a mostly unpleasant experience.
With Terry’s opening ‘gag’ to the audience – whilst introducing his wife and assistant for the evening Freda – the tone was set.
‘Freda told me she had good news and bad news. The bad news was she’d been shagging my brother. The good news was that he had a smaller dick than me!’
The audience may as well have been the High Wycombe Women’s Institute and Baker may as well have been Roy Chubby Brown.
Jimmy was an accomplished entertainer in his way, but it was clear that his love of football and Spurs in particular was beyond jaundiced.
I left feeling that the entire thing was less a celebration of Greaves and more an extremely cynical device to gather cold hard cash from a generation of still smitten fans
Terry Baker became very involved in raising money for Jimmy Greaves rehab after his stroke. I believe in excess of £30,000 was raised.
I’m not going to make any nasty allegations against Baker as I don’t need to be sued.
But get this, even the god damned THST chose to comment rather modestly on this matter, preferring to cite that THFC and the Tottenham Tribute had done more than the honourable thing in respect of fundraising for Jim.
The club had not left Greaves in the lurch.
Demanding that a fund raiser for a noble cause to make their activities transparent and publish how the money was spent feels as awkward as asking someone at a funeral how much they spent on their flowers.
Moving from Jimmy to Gazza, the whole Peter Baker gig becomes more insidious.
I’ve published video footage before of Terry Baker physically holding onto Paul to prevent him shaking on stage. But the footage has been removed from You Tube.
Funny that.
I take a view that Gazza is an utterly lost cause and instead of rehab upon rehab, he ought to be sectioned for his own wellbeing.
Where is Baker today, or do we only hear from him when he milking the cows?
The Sun have today published this image, showing that Paul has plumbed new depths.
Gazza doesn’t need need help, he needs protection.
Permanently removing Terry Baker from Gascoigne’s life would be an excellent start.
