Spurs want star with 17 goal contributions but Conte could throw a spanner in the works

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee in recent weeks.

The 22-year-old striker is reportedly a target for them and it remains to be seen whether the Londoners decide to make a move for him at the end of the season.

The Dutchman has 11 goals and six assists across all competitions and he has the potential to develop into a reliable Premier League forward. However, former manager Antonio Conte could now through a spanner in the works and jeopardise their chances of signing the striker.

According to journalist Marcello Giordano via TVPlay, Conte has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich and he could take the striker with him to the Bundesliga. Bayern Munich included a buyback clause in the striker’s contract when they sold him to Bologna and they can sign the player back for a fee of just €40 million. However, clubs like Tottenham Hotspur might have to pay around €60 million to sign him.

Giordano has now revealed that Conte is an admirer of the 22-year-old striker and he will look to sign the player if he is confirmed as the next Bayern Munich manager.

Giordano said: “If Conte goes to Bayern, we already now that he has flagged Zirkzee to all the clubs that have contacted him. A few weeks ago there were rumours in Germany that [Zirkzee] wouldn’t be brought back because Bayern Munich recently spent a large sum on Kane, but if a manager like Conte, who plays with two forwards, arrives, then perhaps Zirkzee is needed.”

Tottenham’s chances of signing the striker will go down exponentially if that happens. Not only will the German club be able to sign him for a bargain, the opportunity to join them might be a more attractive option for the player as well. The German champions have proven track record when it comes to winning major trophies and they have a top class squad at their disposal.
