By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno.

According to a report from Calciomercato, they have had ‘initial contacts’ with the Italian club in order to find out the true cost of the operation. The defender is reportedly valued at €35 million and it will be interesting to see if Spurs are ready to pay up.

They could certainly use another quality central defender and the Italian would be a superb addition. He is versatile enough to operate as a fullback as well. He has proven his quality in the Italian league, and he has the physical and technical attributes to do well in English football.

Napoli and AC Milan are keen on signing the 24-year-old defender as well, and it will be interesting to see if he is keen on continuing in Italy beyond this season.

Alessandro Buongiorno to join Tottenham?

The opportunity to play in the Premier league can be quite attractive for most players and Tottenham have an exciting project. They are pushing for a top four finish this season and they might be able to play in the Champions League next season.

The reported asking price seems reasonable for a player of his quality, and he could justify the outlay in the coming seasons. The north London club certainly have the financial resources to afford the player this summer. It remains to be seen whether they follow up on their initial enquiry with an official offer at the end of the season.

Napoli and AC Milan will be attractive destinations for the defender as well, but they might not be able to compete with Tottenham financially. the North London club must do everything in their power to secure an agreement with Torino in the coming weeks.
