Harry Kane said: “I thought he [Pochettino] was going to take me off soon so when I put a chance over the bar I thought that was it,” he says. “Luckily I managed to put that one [to complete his hat-trick] away though.

“Winning gives you confidence and now we will be looking forward to Thursday,” he says of facing Gent in the Europa League at Wembley next week.”

Richard Osman the Pointless dude and Fulham fan was interviewed by the BBC at halt time and joked that Spurs had rather suddenly and inconveniently decided to take this competition seriously.

That’s precisely what happened and we did what you’d expect us to do against a Championship side, and we beat them 0-3 at their ground.

Fulham weren’t great, but that’s irrelevant because suddenly we are a ‘Cup Side’ again.

I didn’t see any evidence to suggest that Gent might be sh*tting themselves after watching this performance.

But for all of the frequently pedestrian elements, Spurs won, Spurs kept a clean sheet and Spurs left the field of play knowing they are all but a handful of games away from silverware.

You see, it’s not a complicated process Daniel, but you might want to take a walk around the building site before you go to bed tonight and made sure nobody stole a handful of cement or a lightbulb while you were off site.

    Hail Rock ‘n’ Roll !!!

  • JuandeInternational February 20, 2017 at 9:00 am

A strangely routine performance that only served to highlight

Our core first eleven squad plays very well against weaker opposition.
We are a long way from being consistently competitive against sides of greater quality or sides of okay quality who are up for the fight.
Our squad is paper thin in terms of quality if not quantity. Would have been very different if the likes of Sissoko and Onomah had started.
Harry Winks has real potential but needs more games to get decent experience.
Dele Alli is out of sorts (apart from that one assist for the 3rd goal).
Christian Eriksen cannot seemingly beat the first man from any form of dead ball situation. His quality free kicks seem a distant memory.

A win is a win and gives us a boost for our next two “home” games, but this summer is going to be a bit make or break for Spurs, we cannot dick around with last minute additions who played well for a few matches in a European competition, but will not try to beat the first defender in English football.

    • Camus February 20, 2017 at 9:05 am

We’ve been saying it’s a make or break summer for the past few seasons but we always end up in the same position – flogging off deadwood to buy fresh deadwood stock…

      • AccringtonSpurs February 20, 2017 at 9:23 am

Nkoudou for Njie was some sort of joke.

        • caveman February 20, 2017 at 9:35 am

Well said. When you look at those two deals they represent blindness unequalled anywhere in the Premiership.

          • Spursy February 20, 2017 at 11:35 am

      • JuandeInternational February 20, 2017 at 11:49 am

What I meant by that is that the club showed a change of direction in getting their best players quickly tied down on improved deals and last summer was the time to then add to that with 2-3 players who would make a real difference from the very start. Only Wanyama can be said to fall into that category. If we don’t show real intent this summer in the additions then I fear it won’t just be standing still once more, but really hitting reverse gear as the likes of Lloris and Alderweirald will take the hint and say sod this, I’m off and who could blame them.

Winning an away match by several goals on a large pitch is helpful to confidence going into Wembley. Cottage 110×75, Wembley 115×75.

The away support at the Cottage sounded fantastic. Difficult to mimic that intimicy at the openness of the Wembley digs, from everything I have read. Spurs support must bring it loud and proud on Thursday.

COYS. Hanging several on Gent will not be easy. Timely and quality return for Vertonghen. Defensive side must hold Gent to nil at all cost.

Was glad to see a good effort by Sonny to play both ways v Fulham. He even covered some Fulham passing lanes correctly and directly helped with some dispossession. If Son can keep improving there, the starting spot will be better justified.

I do not think Janssen is in the doghouse over his play. I think it is over his yapper. Sounds like the lads had some meetings of the minds, and have chosen how to move forward. Janssen will either get on the same page, or will be frozen out. That is as it should be. If he works his way back in, he should be in a good frame of mind to progress.

Another 3-goal Spurs win Thursday. Happy Monday – hope everyone has a productive week !

    • MiT February 20, 2017 at 5:14 am

I thought Davies’ game was better today than the 2 previous. The boy has always said that getting forward more is not his strong suit. However, he had some defensive faults the two matches previous, and this match, he cinched those defensive errors up, and still managed to get forward a bit.

The better crosses will come. At least his off/def balance was improved. We can’t expect his game to be the same as that of Rose. Two very different styles. I am glad he is there for when Rose is not.

Nice, balanced match from Trippier today. Perhaps will earn a bit more rotation from it.

Alderweireld was a bit off in spots. Glad Verts was back to tighten it back up.

  • Syd February 20, 2017 at 2:31 am

It was a good run out for Spurs who gained a little credibility with this win. It was quite refreshing to see us on the attack. We should have won by ten and I am concerned about how many chances we created and did not score or at least have a shot on goal. I also noted we have this instinctive move to pass the ball backwards when the player receiving it is in plenty of space and in an attacking position and could easily go forward. A one touch backward pass without looking and it is driving me nuts.
It slows/halts our attacking charge and gives the defence plenty time to get back.
Our counter attack play seems a little thing of the past and ow all build up.

    • MiT February 20, 2017 at 5:27 am

Spurs are sneaky in the counter due to the fluid front 4. Different players drop back at different times, and there is usually one player quietly testing the line for a quick pass when possession switches. Sometimes Dele, sometimes Kane, sometimes Eriksen, sometimes Son making that sneaky run. The opposition never knows which to expect.

Son was better today in dropping in for his mates. We thus saw several fruitful Dele, Eriksen, and Kane forays into 1v1 opportunities. Sonny played a much better team match, and it paid off.

Spurs like keeping the ball. The back passes and switches are just a part of their game. There were a couple of spots where a shot may have been in order.

      • 61SpursNut🌰 February 20, 2017 at 9:24 am

Interesting take on Son’s “shit” performance.

The below is a cut and paste of how the Belgian league works. I heard about it on the radio earlier. It is one fucked up league. Gent are currently 7th in their league and need to be in the top 6 to be in the playoffs!!! Wtf

    1) The first stage is the general league where each team plays each other once home and once away. This means each team plays 30 games. After this 30 games, the final league table of the regular season decides the actual divide of the play-offs.

    2) The top-6 teams of the regular season go into what is called Play-Off I. This is the playoff that will decide the domestic champion, the runner-up (who also plays qualifiers for the Champions League), and one of the Europa League entries. In the Play-off I each team again plays each other twice: once home and once away. This means each team plays 10 games. The teams start the Play-off I with half of the points they totalised at the end of the regular season. Imagine a team collected 66 points in the regular season, it starts Play-off I with 33 points. If the number of points after dividing by two is uneven, it is rounded up (30.5 points would become 31). The winner of Play-off I is the champion of Belgium. The nr 2 gets to play Champions League qualifiers too. The number 3 qualifies for the Europa League. The nr 4 plays blah blah blah blah….

I saw Verve at the ULU in late 1991. They added the “The” later for legal reasons (the Verve record label objected). They were the first support act, followed by Moose and the headline band Thousand Yard Stare. Richard Ashcroft thought he was the shit even back then. To be fair to them, in performance terms they weren’t bad at all. But they definitely left the impression they (particularly Ashcroft) thought they were a cut above the acts they were warming up for. History would suggest they were right. Thousand Yard Stare gave away a 12″ single containing a Wire cover at the gig. I know, fascinating.

I said t’other day that I thought the greatest ‘threat’ to Brexit would be the / an extended period of negotiation, which could go on indefinitely, at least until the ‘right’ decision is reached.

No-one seems to talking about this element of the process, which I think is interesting.

Liz Truss, on Andrew Marr this morning, was useless. When asked whether Brexit was revocable, she eventually said it wasn’t. She’s wrong.

There you go Vincent, yesterday it was being reported all over the media that you don’t try hard enough and you need to prove yourself, and today I’m not giving you twenty minutes to have a run out against a beaten Championship side.

That’s a confidence booster. Instead we watched Sissoko blunder about to no good purpose.

    • Real Fan? February 19, 2017 at 9:29 pm

I know, a bit too desperate. I like the guy, but I don’t think we should be doing charity any more if we want to win stuff. To me, Janssen still looks like he’s carrying a bit of weigh, which, at this stage of the seaso,n is not a good thing.

We did two quarters finals instead of a semi.

            • Frontwheel 2 February 19, 2017 at 9:22 pm

              Aha

          • LIMERICK AL February 19, 2017 at 9:23 pm

No. We got a Bye. Straight into the Final, something to do with Brexit.

            Yes, On away goals. AET.

      • LIMERICK AL February 19, 2017 at 9:17 pm

We have lost 5 FA CUP Semis, the last 5 we have played.

        • LIMERICK AL February 19, 2017 at 9:18 pm

In other words we have lost 5 semis Finals, FA CUP, since we won the FUCKER in 1991.

        • Frontwheel 2 February 19, 2017 at 9:19 pm

          Moving the goal posts

        No, Never happened.

      • LIMERICK AL February 19, 2017 at 9:38 pm

      Rejoice,we never lost 2-0

  • James147 February 19, 2017 at 9:04 pm

Can anyone tell me, what was the song we were singing that went on for ages today? Must have lasted a good 5 or 10 minutes. Was about the 60 minute mark in the game. Even the BBC commentator stopped to point out we were in great voice.

    • AccringtonSpurs February 19, 2017 at 9:04 pm

      Massive Attack – Protection?

      • 89Spurs 👁 February 19, 2017 at 9:06 pm

Any idea on the words that they were singing 🎤

    • Covspur February 19, 2017 at 9:12 pm

      Being a yid
      Being a yid

That’s it! Brilliant. Cheers Covspur. Couldn’t make it out. Lasted for ages. What brilliant away support.

  • AccringtonSpurs February 19, 2017 at 8:55 pm

Danny Rose will score the winner in the FA Cup final.

  • BigChiv February 19, 2017 at 8:45 pm

We’ll win the FA Cup without having to leave London!

    • 61SpursNut🌰 February 19, 2017 at 8:46 pm

Funny you should say that! 🙂

    • Razspur February 19, 2017 at 8:47 pm

If we reach the semis/Final we’ll have to go to Cardiff as they can’t have a Club involved with home advantage !

  • Stevo1987 February 19, 2017 at 8:42 pm

Look I don’t go to games any more. For one reason I live a bit further way these days. I will try and get there when the new stadium is built. Anyway, the point of my post is our fans sounded great on the telly. The noise they were making was fantastic. And yeah, I have been to Craven Cottage in the rain. Not pleasant.

    • caveman February 19, 2017 at 8:43 pm

Have you stood on the mud though?

    • Razspur February 19, 2017 at 8:46 pm

The DJ with the mixer puts the noise up when we attack then the great oooohhhhhh when we shoot wide or over the bar, it’s all done by achoushtys now.

    • Citizen Smozz February 19, 2017 at 8:47 pm

Had a ball and sung our hearts out!

Pochettino said ‘We must focus on Thursday, forget this and try to be focused,’ the Argentine added. ‘Thursday is a massive, massive game for us.
‘We need to feel we must win and go to the next round, and now we’re not allowed to speak about the FA Cup.
‘Okay, we can see the draw, talk about it and then we must forget and be focused for Thursday.
‘For me, it will be a massive game for us, and our supporters. At Wembley. We must put all our energy into that game.’

    • McG ⚽⚽ February 19, 2017 at 8:48 pm

I hope that’s right, sounds like he may take both cups seriously, which would be great.

  • Spurstacus 💋 February 19, 2017 at 8:34 pm

I enjoyed us winning today. We looked better although it was “only Fulham”. Hopefully builds confidence. On another note, I cannot now see how Janssen, Wimmer or N’Koudou play again this season (as they didn’t feature today or vs Gent.) Add Lamela to that list. Summer clear-out upcoming, as usual… And then time to buy some more deadwood!

    Screen shot that, mofo.

  • McG ⚽⚽ February 19, 2017 at 8:31 pm

Did Edwards sign a new contract with us in the end? Was expecting to see a little of him this season, got injured & things seem to have stalled a bit…

    • Lilywhite without the II February 19, 2017 at 10:14 pm

signed a 2 year extension last summer..

Nice to see you up and about, missed you all day, have been watching England ladies playing rugby 🏉?

      • Spurstacus 💋 February 19, 2017 at 8:41 pm

They were women?! Damn! Did the blokes on the other team know?

        • 89Spurs 👁 February 19, 2017 at 8:44 pm

          They just got the knowledge.

After the game, in the baths?

  • AccringtonSpurs February 19, 2017 at 8:20 pm

The major difference today from thursday was that Gent pressed us – fulham didn’t.

    • Spurstacus 💋 February 19, 2017 at 8:22 pm

I thought it was the goals.

      • AccringtonSpurs February 19, 2017 at 8:24 pm

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? February 19, 2017 at 8:13 pm

Chelsea or manc utd out. Millwall at home. This is our year. Do it. Dooooooooii it!!

  • Spursy February 19, 2017 at 8:05 pm

What’s the consensus: is Janssen toast? Maybe he doesn’t train very hard or summat. Poch has definitely got his thumbscrews out.

    • Spursy February 19, 2017 at 8:06 pm

Or maybe elaborate mindgames to shock him into form. A change from too many cuddles?

      • Razspur February 19, 2017 at 8:07 pm

To not bring him on for the final 15 today means it’s looking odious !

    • Superspoz 🏆 February 19, 2017 at 8:07 pm

Poch has either had enough or he’s playing the old ‘he’s got to show me more in training ‘ card to get a tune out of him.

      • Spursy February 19, 2017 at 8:11 pm

Yeah. I read a piece by Harry Winks where he hired a trainer over the summer holidays so that he would stand out when they do their pre-season training. Winks said he finished 4th out of the whole squad on one really tough routine and that he saw Poch’s surprise and pleasure. Maybe Janssen hasn’t put himself out enough.

  • Razspur February 19, 2017 at 8:04 pm

I suppose that means we’ll be giving up on Top 4 then !

  • richspurs February 19, 2017 at 7:53 pm

    24 cup finals to go.

    • Jan Vertiginous February 19, 2017 at 7:55 pm

Maybe Palace have another promising young English winger we can buy too young, decant his blood to keep Levy ageless then sell his broken husk to the championship again.

      • Camus February 19, 2017 at 7:56 pm

        Is that you, Andros?

        • Jan Vertiginous February 19, 2017 at 7:57 pm

No it’s me Routledge, when’s Zaha coming?

  • Jan Vertiginous February 19, 2017 at 7:52 pm

According to radio 4’s newsreader, Harry Keane scored a hat trick.

    • Lord Croker February 19, 2017 at 7:54 pm

Fake news from the BBC again. Turn it off.

    • Camus February 19, 2017 at 7:55 pm

We made Radio 4…? Radio 2 will still find a way to not mention us tomorrow morning. Probably interview Klopp or something.

  • sideshowbob February 19, 2017 at 7:49 pm

    Stop………. Halt time

  • Dancingbarber February 19, 2017 at 7:48 pm

I don’t actually believe Levy picks the team. But Gladys might know different.

  • 61SpursNut🌰 February 19, 2017 at 7:48 pm

We’re gonna win the cup without leaving old London town.

  • MysteriousStranger February 19, 2017 at 7:42 pm

Arsenal playing Sutton, and barring a miracle will be hosting Lincoln next. Lucky bastards. It would be lovely if Sutton won. But they won’t.

Still, we’ve not had a hard set of FA Cup fixtures on paper ourselves this season. Not a Premier League team in opposition to us so far.

Chelsea vs Man Utd the “glamour tie”. Shame for one of them to have to lose. 😃

    • Camus February 19, 2017 at 7:49 pm

The Emirates-sponsored Goons always get an easy draw. Always. (Don’t disprove this with anything as petty as evidence.)

    • sideshowbob February 19, 2017 at 7:46 pm
