Former PL ace slams Spurs player, thinks it would be ‘a miracle’ if he succeeds

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele joined Napoli on loan during the summer transfer window and the 25-year-old will be expected to get his career back on track with regular football at the Italian club.

However, former Premier League star Paolo Di Canio believes that the 25-year-old doesn’t work hard without the ball and he is unlikely to be a success at Napoli.

Di Canio further added that Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti will have to perform a miracle to get the 25-year-old firing at the Serie A club.

He said (via CalcioNapoli): “I’ll just say one thing, if Spalletti works a miracle with him, I’ll take off my hat and congratulate him. Out of habit this guy doesn’t want to sacrifice himself without the ball. He’s not a playmaker and at most he can play mezzala who becomes a playmaker. I don’t expect Luciano to make him walk on the water, but if he did at least make him swim it would be a resounding success.”

Spurs paid a fee of around £54 million on Ndombele back in 2019 but the midfielder’s transfer has proven to be a major disappointment for the Premier League club.

Despite his prodigious talent, the Frenchman has struggled to establish himself as a key player under multiple managers at Tottenham and he has now been loaned out so that he can regain his confidence and sharpness with regular football at another club.

It’s clear that he is no longer a part of Antonio Conte’s first team plans and a failed loan spell at Napoli will cast further uncertainty surrounding his future next summer.

If rumours are to be believed, Napoli have an option to sign the player permanently at the end of this season and it will be interesting to see if the Frenchman can impress them sufficiently with his performances this season.

The on-loan Spurs midfielder was on the bench during Napoli’s comprehensive 4-1 win over Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League during midweek. It remains to be seen whether he can force his way into Spalletti’s first team plans over the next few weeks now.

Mate, is there any chance you could stop peddling grossly inaccurate fairy tales about our transfers?

Botch told us repeatedly for years that no player was signed without his nod..

Or substantiate this IN A MANNER THAT WOULD ENTIRELY SATISFY a grown up.

Thanks.

Ndombelly was persuaded to come by Botcho.. Of course he wanted him.. The likes of Ndom, Lo Celso and Sessy were all under his watch..
Yes we all know the one press conference after the CL final and 12 months of signing no one (apart from renewing Kane’s contract) when Botch was a broken man… The rest of the 6 years where the Patsy was berry appy is far more relevant.. Club record signings aren’t bought in without the managers nod this is for sure… Clubs in England now follow clubs across the world, they work with sporting directors, head scouts, and managers all working together as a team.
Botch told us repeatedly for years that no player was signed without his nod..

Same as club record signing Richy is clearly a Conte signing.. He wanted him, it’s obvious. Managers live and die by their signings. It’s all about the players.

The Bald one is in control of the funds, but he knows nothing about football, so he isn’t involved in targeting and scouting players… How many deals has he scuppered with his ‘tough’ negotiations is what gripes me.

At this stage we cut our losses and move on… Anything is better than having him in our club.

Thanks for the correction, although I doubt Dumbelly’s loan is without subsidy.

Not sure why you think Poch was to blame for his signing. I seem to remember him stating that he was only the coach not the manager at one press conference. Furthermore, he saw the inevitable decline of the team before we reached the CL final and urged the board “to be brave” in the transfer market. Levy’s response was to go without signing any new players during three transfer windows, an unheard of event in modern football history. I suggest that twenty three years of our ineptitude in the transfer market and one paltry trophy is down to one man.

Didn’t H say in a recent video, that we are subsidising his loan with 75% of his salary? So he’s basically being paid 150K/week by us to sit on somebody else’s bench. That is a cunning plan Levy.

A loan for 450k, with an option to buy for 32 million.. He’s now valued at 27 million..
When he comes back he will have only a year left on his contract…

I’m so happy we now have a proper manager and a decent head scout//director.. We may make a duff signing or two. But nothing like this Botch job.

Tangy just seemed to be happy to get the pipe and slippers on once he started getting paid 200k a week. I can’t see that changing, He’s super talented but he only plays when he feels like it…
