The story from THFC back in August of 2018 was that ‘recent testing and commissioning has now shown issues with the critical safety systems.’
The test events were duly abandoned and the Liverpool game was switched to Wembley.
We then had to a suffer swathes of Levyologists explain to us in deeply measured tones how big construction projects always overrun and always go over budget and how if we didn’t like this brave new world, well we could always shut our eyes ever so tightly and imagine a return to the ‘dark old days’ of of Scholar and Sugar (during grim era we won trophies and had a comparatively small debts – but hey).
We then had that curious business of an article on Buildingco.uk being pulled within an hour of publication.
The piece essentially said that Mace were going to be liable for compensation running into millions.
This was never refuted by anyone, just pulled. As was an aggregated version in the Evening Standard.
A source close to the club has told the Harry Hotspur blog that the club’s statement was more than a little economical with the truth.
There was and still is a wiring issue.
But a very much self inflicted one.
Levy and his son agreed an initial deal for the stadium’s audio fit out with a company called D&B Audiotechnik.
The NFL became aware of this and strongly suggested that the contract be given to one of their sponsors JBL as they were familiar with project requirements.
So Levy & son decided to bypass the UK agents from JBL and buy direct from the manufacturing company, owned by Samsung.
On the face of it, the Levy’s pulled off quite a coup. The cost of this kit was massively subsidised and included a 10 year free support deal.
Slight problem.
Essentially, audio kits aren’t just about playing music, or half time interviews, etc. They must be linked to an alarm system. This element of Health and Safety is paramount when you’re talking about 60,000+ people in a confined space.
Think that last paragraph is amusing?
I suggest you try to understand the importance of EN54 and realise that isn’t some crazy piece of EU banana straightening legislation.
‘Oh so what you’re saying is Levy was going to turn the New Destination into another potential Grenfell?’
The kit the Levy’s bought and had installed had no fire rated cables, so if there were to be a fire at the stadium – the cables would melt.
Additionally the kit the Levy’s bought and had installed didn’t have a battery back up in the event of a power cut.
Oh, and there’s no voice activated evacuation system which guides people to an appropriate (and safe) exit.
No system to guide people away from danger.
Keep in mind that safety needs in 2018 are more complex than ever before and countering terrorism also has to be factored in.
The kit the Levy’s bought and had installed was essentially a very fancy PA system. Which simply didn’t pass muster.
You remove one processor – the entire system is kaput. The kit the Levy’s bought was also a single cable system. There must be a double rated system.
Still smirking?
More importantly – how the hell did this ever get to happen?! Well, first of all we need…
✔️The magical Levy DNA which fixates on price
✔️An imbecilic installation company
✔️Poor industry-wide compliance
✔️An imbecilic local authority
This blog has been advised of two stadiums in the UK that are currently operating without compliant audio systems and will contact their local councils on Monday morning.
It is not fully understood how this bad system was discovered at Spurs, but thank goodness it was.
One would have to go some distance in order to find a more complex, messier set of issues to rectify.
The club has had to completely replace the system, add new racks for speakers; the main work involves digging out and replacing cables- which is really time consuming as a lot of them are already connected into other systems – stadium wide.
Conclusion
The short answer is that this is what happens when unsupervised people are allowed operate beyond their skillsets. I would say above their pay grade, but that wouldn’t really apply here, given the vast salaries being sloshed about.
This also explains why the venue still can’t open its doors yet despite all the videos and photos being released appearing to show relatively cosmetic stuff requiring attention.
The entire project has been handicapped from within, and Mace etc look to be exonerated.
The chaos is never ending with these people. If they could run a bath, the odds are they’d electrocute themselves before the fire broke out.
In order to save a few quid, the consequences have cost millions. Penny wise – pound foolish.
Goodwill amongst the fans is at an all-time low.
The players are fatigued – because the genius mismanaging the club was too busy trying to fight fires he started – and left us as the only club in Europe’s top 5 leagues not to buy a single player.
There is still no firm indication as to when this idiotic Shopping Centre will be opened.
Apparently the auto-censor gets the words can’t and cunt confused! Replaces with Levy. Reminds me of when an Irish teammate got sent off for telling the ref “you can’t do that”..
Depends, does the tour include the cheese room? Can’t wait to see the most costliest collection of dairylee triangles and babybels.
😂
I’ve been on jobs where small mistakes can take weeks to fix…this problem must be huge as getting to routes that may of been boarded up or having insufficient capacity for additional cables on existing routes this scale would be a nightmare…..
This is 100% someones (insert Levy’s name) fault…using metal cable ties and low smoke cable etc has been standard practice for years…if you take ownership away from a main contractor they wipe their hands of it…..take away I.T, decor, electrical finishing, external works, grounds works etc away from the PC but never take away main infrastructure works/cabling from a job this complex..
Grenfell didn’t have a PA system so it’s a tad academic.
That and legislation doesn’t get released in the space of a fortnight.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/EN_54
can you confirm if that goes in the Pro or Con section 😬
I truly wish I hadn’t mentioned it. Christ you cannot legislate for the way people’s brains work.
It’s entirely irrelevant beyond a fire and not being compliant.
Levy’s not been ‘caught out’ by overnight changes in legislation.
At all.
Not vaguely.
Victoria line strike incoming!

I had to answeer my own question lol
14 June 2017 was Grenfell Harry…The old stadium wasnt even completely demolished by then was it?
I’ve also heard that the tube staff at Seven Sisters have been told to get prepared for a January opening

Fingers crossed!
Don’t forget the £30 stadium tours https://experience.tottenhamhotspur.com/vouchers/purchase.htm
I don’t see why Grenfell would have any impact whatsoever. Especially seeing as they haven’t even finished looking into that yet.
This explains why Levy (or THFC Official) hasn’t had a rant about the delays and financial consequences
Not many people sue themselves.
The gift that keeps on giving, …if the gift was a terminal illness.
The word I wrote was the correct word for the Spurs chicken, so why does it keep changing it to wedding vegetable. I suggest you have a bug.
NUCKIN FUTS!
Hahaha! When will we learn? Man Utd grand opening in January!! Dont fret, the tenners are quite safe. More carroting from on high…..its always a glamour club isn’t it? How coincidental…
Levy would attach 2 paper cups to a piece of string if he could get away with it.
This predates Grenfell, mate.
Being an electrical contractor I completely understand where this story is coming from,Grenfell has created a myriad of new regs due mostly to overhanging cables not fire rated & not supported by fire resistant materials. That said I have no doubt that having hundreds of sparks on site & paying £400 per day did not help.In multi core cables the identification of conductors is paramount & easily messed up from one guy to the next.Times this problem by probably a million meters of cabling & your bound to get issues.Levy may have f”cked up big time but I’d bet he wasn’t the only one.
On a more upbeat note, I have been informed by a reliable source in the Spurs medical department that another test event will take place Sunday 30 December. That test event will be followed by a final test event Sunday 6 January. The Club have targeted Sunday 13 January, (the home game against Man Utd) for the grand opening of our New World Class Stadium. It’s a tight schedule but Levy is pushing hard to meet that date. You heard it here first. I have taken a few £10 bets off my Spurs mates that the Stadium will open Sunday 13 January. Not only will I lose money, but I’ll never live it down if I’m wrong.
Even though the new staium predates Grenfell, with new regulations being introduced would not the authorities insist on them being applied?
I’m no Levy lover, but those additional expenses could not have been foreseen by anyone if that were the case.
I just don’t know what the legal situation would be.
More bad news for you today. I was at the ground speaking to one of the workers. The bolts behind some of the beige panels (near the big cockerel and other places) are rusting and leaking. You can see the rust marks, which remind you of poorly-built tower blocks. Apparently, it’s all to do with the faulty panels behind the front panels. In other words, a right royal mess. There are daily health and safety conflicts between groups of workers. The guys I spoke to said the inside of the stadium is also a right royal mess and that they would be surprised if the stadium will open this season, let alone January or March. All very sad.
I don’t know why the word cockerel in my message below was changed to big wedding vegetable after I posted. Very strange.
This is my take:
ENIC doing their job:
• New training ground – when you compare our facilities to the other premier league teams, although from the outside ours is good on the eye and “new”, most teams have just as good and have done for years – even Sunderland are on the list below
https://www.balls.ie/football/the-top-5-premier-league-training-grounds-328353
You can then add Chelsea, Arsenal etc to that list whom all have great facilities and Everton are about to invest 100m on a new centre….
• New stadium – I believe most people would have been happy with an investment such as Atletico Madrid’s new stadium of 250m euros, or even a full refurb and extension for similar money, however we do not need a 1b pound venue with glass walls and polished floors that you we use for 2 hours a time.
ENIC Pros:
• Employed HR & Poch
• Built a global brand
ENIC Cons:
• Do not support fans when they are most needed
• Happy to transfer our club to another location
• Tried to block the fixed rate away ticket prices
• Use a legal touting company (StubHub) to exploit fans for transferring tickets to other Spurs fans
• Never communicate to the fans unless their hands are tied
• Trophy drought
• High manager turnover
• Huge debt (more than Man United)
• Poor scouting
• Poor season ticket points system
• Forced to buy season tickets at Wembley
• Poor treatment of legends
• Expensive season tickets forcing out long term holders
• Bad PR
• Over sells how good our academy is
• Pretty much upset most other chairman in the league with their lowballing tactics
• Stadium fiasco
• No aspirations to win anything
As Steve Crowder says in his youtube blogs, “change my mind”…
Can ‘t wait for VAR
Add to the below…if you listen to the Spurs Show they mentioned a lot of friends went on the Premium Arsenal away package and was serviced low value breakfast, didn’t get to see much of the stadium, travel plans were not considered etc etc…anyway, sounds like a waste of £250.00 from our cheapskate owners..
I think I’ve levy fatigue,
The incompetence has no shock value, if he got something right I’d be more shocked
Moderator, please do something about your website. If i write chicken instead, it’ll probably be all right.
NEXT season(if we are lucky)
Oh Tottenham. What did you do to deserve to end up in such awful awful hands? RIP.
