You’ll Never Believe Who Some Spurs Fans Want Dropping For West Ham

By Joe Fish -

I never thought I’d see the day; Tottenham fans asking for Harry Kane to be dropped.

But that’s exactly what some supporters on Twitter want for Tuesday’s visit of West Ham.

The 26-year-old striker’s return to Premier League action for the first time in six months against Manchester United on Friday was one of the most ineffective Kane performances I can remember. He didn’t have a sniff of goal and looked leggy 10 minutes into the second half, which is of course understandable. Yet again he was flogged for the full 90 minutes without the option of a striker on the bench. We are physically breaking this man.

And the sentiment in the above tweets is strongly protective towards Kane’s long-term fitness and giving him a chance to get back to his explosive best.

Any other player coming back from Kane’s layoff would be eased back gradually, but we’re too starved of alternatives to offer him that luxury.

What do you think – would you start Kane against West Ham?

It’s not just the CF position that needs proper competition for a place. It’s all over the pitch. We don’t have it hence some if the performances we see and get from players

I think, like our best players before him. His head and heart lie elsewhere. His love affair with Spurs is over.

He’s also got a level of arrogance thinking perhaps he’s un-droppable even when just 50% fit. A good team player wouldn’t have played in the CL final nor would he think he had 90mins of football in him after a 6 month lay off. A conversation he could’ve clearly had with the current manager and the previous one.

No centre forward would have got much out of Friday’s game. We were set up to defend. This is why I suggested Kane play as a 10. He needs match fitness, so being on the bench serves no purpose. Our style of football needs to focus on what he does well. Asking him to run the line is a tough ask. When we did break, Lamela et al fluffed their lines with poor final deliveries. Bergwijn hit a brilliant cross, only for Son to be on the end of it. Dropping Kane is not the answer.

Son has been tried up top multiple times and he cannot play with his back to goal to save his life. He can’t hold the ball up well. He slows play down in that role. Lucas and bergwin are better there but not much.. Using wingers for strikers may be ok for a pub club… We have desperately needed another striker for years now.. Llorente wasnt trusted or used enough.. Kane needs help and maureen needs options. Its same situation as poch. Forced to play him, and leave him on the pitch because there is no other options.

Nobody is questioning Harry’s motivation, but it is a fact that his injuries are occurring on a regular basis. The manager needs to be able to rest him now and again which means a back up is a priority.Given the choice Kane would play till he drops, but that does nobody any good.He has to accept that it’s no reflection on him as a player when he is granted a break. However the fact remains that we don’t have the likes of De Bruyne in our side so perhaps he will look to move elsewhere.

He has played too much football you say , which only adds to what I have said, and is probably why he has had so many injuries, he wouldn’t get as many minutes at citeh or any other similar club, because it would be the manager choosing when he plays not Harry.

This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.136 goals in 200 games for Spurs and you think he is lacking motivation and needs competition? There are two problems with Harry i) he has played too much football for Spurs and England ii) the way we play he doesn’t get the service he needs. How many goals would he score playing for City with De Bruyne, Silva etc feeding him, not having to drop deep in search of the ball and getting proper rotation.

I’d play him from the start. He needs the minutes on the pitch to get his fitness back. He’s too fat and needs to lose weight.

The problem here is the fact that Kane has nobody to push him, his position is so safe no matter what, he knows he plays if fit or half fit, that is the crux of the matter. Therefore another quality striker is what is needed to make him realise he has to perform to keep his place, because as good as he has been, he needs competition .
