“You have to point the finger at…” – Pundit blames one Spurs man for Tottenham’s problems this season

By Mehdi Gokal -

Antonio Conte has been blamed for Tottenham’s defensive woes this season.

Tottenham came from 2 goals down to rescue a point against Brentford on Boxing Day.

This has been a recurring theme for the Spurs this season, where they have trailed for the majority of the game before making a comeback to save a point or successfully make a comeback to win all three points.

And once again it were the late goals from Harry Kane and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg that rescued a draw for Conte’s men. And fingers have started to point against the Italian manager whose style of play has come under huge criticism this season.

ESPN pundit Steve Nicol has claimed that Spurs conceding the goals first is happening far too frequently now, and blamed the manager for it.

He told ESPN:

“You have to point the finger at Conte. This has happened too often for it not to be him, sending his team out with pretty much a conservative mindset.”

The blame on Conte is once again at his defensive approach to the game which has ironically not worked for them so far.

They play some of the most boring football in the league despite having some brilliant footballers in Son, Kane, Kulusevksi, Bentancur, Richarlison, etc.

That being said, despite his uninspiring style of play, Conte still manages to not only grind out wins but also has a reputation of being a serial winner, having won major trophies wherever he has gone.

And hence, while most people will not like the football they play, if Conte manages to end Spurs’ trophy drought, Spurs fans will not mind it at all
