Tottenham Hotspur are set to receive a boost with the early arrival of Yang Min-hyeok, according to reports.
Yang agreed to join Spurs on a five-year contract in the summer but wasn’t officially meant to join the club until January, allowing him to finish the K League 1 season with Gangwon FC.
The South Korean teenager has impressed this campaign, notching 11 goals and six assists in 37 appearances despite still being just 18 years old.
Yang also caught the eye playing against Spurs for the K League All Stars during the summer.
The K League season is close to completion, with just 10 days left on the official calendar.
According to Korean outlet Sports Chosun, Yang will then take a short break before relocating to North London earlier than initially planned.
“Tottenham has requested Yang Min-hyeok to join early. He is scheduled to join Tottenham in mid-December, earlier than originally planned,” Sports Chosun quote from an insider, adding: “Yang Min-hyeok will wrap up this season’s schedule with the K League awards ceremony on the 29th, then take about two weeks of rest and board a plane to London.”
Will Yang Min-hyeok play for Tottenham?
Few expect Yang to make an immediate impact at Tottenham given his age and lack of experience in Europe.
However, Ange Postecoglou may be left with little choice but to give the teenager some minutes.
Spurs have once again been hit with injuries this season, with the likes of Son Heung-min, Dominic Solanke, Richarlison and Wilson Odobert in forward positions all struggling with various fitness issues.
That’s left the Lilywhites short of cover. Recent games have seen Postecoglou field Solanke through the middle with Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner either side of him. Beyond that duo, 17-year-old Mikey Moore has been the only other regularly fit winger in Spurs’ squad; especially with Dejan Kulusevski often deployed in midfield.
Couple that with the fact that Postecoglou has been more than willing to give youngsters like Moore, Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Will Lankshear minutes this season, and there’s every chance Yang may be kept around until the end of the 2024/25 campaign as a depth option, rather than going straight out on loan.
