Giovani Lo Celso is strongly linked with a move away from North London, with Galatasaray showing interest in securing the midfielder’s signature.
The Turkish transfer window remains open until the close of play on Friday, and the Turkish giants are eager to sign the World Cup winner on the deadline day.
Reports also indicate that Galatasaray have already made preparations, including assigning the No. 10 jersey, in anticipation of Lo Celso’s potential arrival.
Nevertheless, as per journalist Tom Barclay, the attacking midfielder is unlikely to leave on the deadline day.
Addressing the transfer rumors surrounding Lo Celso on The Tottenham Way Podcast, Barclay provided insights.
“The suggestion had been in the Turkish media that Galatasaray had been interested in doing a last-minute deal from their point of view this month. The Turkish window is open until February 9th, so English teams can still sell, but my understanding is that Lo Celso will be staying at Tottenham in this window.
“My understanding is that he’s likely to stay for the rest of the season, and then in the summer he’ll have one year left on his contract, but if he hasn’t proved himself by then from a fitness point of view more than anything, you wouldn’t be surprised if he moved on by then.”
Despite playing a supporting role under Ange Postecoglou, Lo Celso has been delivering some of his best performances for Spurs, contributing significantly with four goals (two goals and two assists) in 10 league appearances, particularly stepping up during James Maddison’s absence..
However, he continues to struggle with injury issues which has made it difficult for him to get a regular run of games. He has missed ten games for the club this season due to hamstring and muscle injuries.
With the Turkish window nearing it’s deadline, it looks like the player will end up staying at Spurs for the remainder of the season. But a summer move can not be ruled out.
