World class manager expresses interest in taking up the Tottenham job if Antonio Conte leaves, Daniel Levy weighing up ‘options’

According to The Mirror, Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has expressed interest in returning to the club if the current manager, Antonio Conte, leaves.

After leaving Paris St. Germain last year, the 50-year-old Argentine, who guided Spurs to the 2019 Champions League final, is now a free agent.

Although Conte is adamant about finishing the final six months of his contract, the Italian is reportedly unwilling to sign a new contract because of the Italian club’s management.

This has left the club with a decision to make on whether to let the situation continue until the end of the season or to pay Conte off and part ways now.

The club’s performance has been less than satisfactory this season, currently sitting in fifth place in the league and winning only five of their last 14 matches.

Additionally, fans are disappointed with the lack of January signings compared to their Champions League rivals. The club has also only kept one clean sheet in the Premier League since October.

Pochettino, who was appointed as the Spurs manager in 2014, remains a popular figure among fans. He led the team to the League Cup final in his first full season.

He also led the team to two third-place finishes, a runners-up spot in the Premier League in 2017, and fourth place in his final campaign as well as a Champions League final.

Although, he was unhappy with the lack of investment from the club’s board, which ultimately led to his dismissal in 2019.

The report adds that despite his dismissal, Pochettino still has a good relationship with the club’s chairman, Daniel Levy, and the club is ‘considering their options’ given the uncertainty around Conte’s future.

Pochettino has been open about his desire to return to the Premier League and has previously stated that he would consider taking a job in England if the opportunity arises.

He said back in November:

“I miss the Premier League. Why not (return to manage in England)? We are open. I love England, I love living in London and Barcelona. And of course, if that possibility (to return) appears for sure we will consider taking it.”
