Willian Rumour Stinks Of Another Cynical Stunt [opinion]

By The Boy -

As football transfer rumours go, Willian to Tottenham has a nice ring to it. IF one has been living up a tree on a desert island for the past decade.

It was back in the summer of 2013 that Willian nearly joined us, the Brazilian had been wanted by Andre Villas-Boas in the January, but Spurs characteristically missed out and the forward went to Anzhi Makhachkala instead. Spurs’ reignited their interest in the August and had reached an understanding in principle. Alas, Roman Abramovich was said to have made a personal call, to the Anzhi owner and Tottenham’s medical for Willian was never completed. The rest is history.

The now 31-year-old would appear to be looking for a sweetheart deal at Stanford Bridge, to see Willian into his footballing dotage, and Tottenham’s name has appeared in the frame as a supposedly interested party.

I take a view that this is a purely cynical call, designed to court favour with Frank Lampard et al. On his day, a hugely talented player, but that ship sailed 7 years ago.

Tottenham may be in the floor – personnel wise – but there’s never a right time to entertain the notion of leftovers.

Thanks, but no thanks.

If I had to have a 31 year old in my squad I’d 100% take him. 100%. no side ways with him. He’s still got 3 year contract left him. I reckon he’d be good to have round the place. It’s a yes from me.

Don’t want him,he had his opportunity to come to us and almost certainly moved for more money. He’s won a few things as well.
He just got his British citizenship and has expressed a wish to stay in London where his family are happy and settled. His best days are behind him unfortunately and we don’t need him and Levy probably wouldn’t pay him what he feels he deserves. He’s a good fit for the Spam.
