Why Was Jose Celebrating So Much? I have a sneaking suspicion…|video

By The Boy -

The celebrations from the Spurs coaching team did not go down well with some Tottenham fans. After all, it was a comparatively mediocre finish to a mediocre season.

Well, for those of you that have watched the Portuguese celebrate before (and given his CV, there have been many examples) this was the celebratory version of the ironic cheer. Nobody in their right mind would go doolally over such a game. Indeed, if you look at the faces of the other coaches, theyā€™re in on it too.

Itā€™s rather sad that so many supporters are still emotionally invested in the last guy that left us in 14th, with a squad that was emotionally and physically kaput. Itā€™s even sadder that Spurs eventually hire one of the best managers in the world, but heā€™s not quite the ideal fit on emotional grounds, so he has to be sent back.

Now THATā€™S embarrassing.

Not writing him off, yet. His record is too good to dismiss the guy, I just feel his best days are past him. Secondly, I donā€™t enjoy the way his teams play, never have done…

Whatā€™s all this boring football about? 29% possession of the football at home is what itā€™s all about.

Then again, some people might enjoy watching the opposing team play all the football rather than us… šŸ˜‚

What is all this “boring” football I am hearing of?

Last few games have been entertaining, cut and thrust, sweeping counter attacks – plenty of entertainment there. Anyone forgetting the extensive sideways and backwards borefest merchants we were at the start of the season, under some other bloke?

Agreed. Levy is the poison. The Amazon documentary looks a lot better with Jose speaking than any other manager too. You can see the final instalment, with the coaches all hugging and Jose preaching over the top “the big teams better watch out next season, it will be……special”. Cue Hollywood music and a clip of Hojbjerg walking through the door!

Fernandes is on loan for a small fee for 18 months. And he would be Jose’s man.The reason I didn’t include LoCelso in Pochs signings was he was on loan to buy at the end of the season but we got the chance to sign him in the winter window for reduced fee after Poch was fired .

Bloody right!! I’ll take a serial winner over a serial loser any day of the week. Pretty football looks good, but if you win zero trophies you still have nothing. I trust Jose to get this turned around next year with his philosophy more established and some (hopefully) additions to the squad.

its because Levy still hoping the answer is not money spent. Levy has no desire to win anythng, that is a by product for him. He wants to do the least amount possible to raise the most amount of income. Jose is a nothing but a side show to raise our profile, its cheaper than buying the players that would have done the same thing but on the pitch. Levy has no care for the football, and if he was promised top 4 every season for 10yrs, or the title once he would choose CL every time.

With you all the way on this. What has always confused me is, if you are so close to success, why would you change the way you do things so drastically, especially when it looks awful? But hey, we beat Newcastle and Leicester with no possession whilst drawing to Bournemouth and Palace. Glory……Glory….

100% mate!! its as though Poch was a failure and lost all his games. He got us touching disitance to the title, the CL and a few semi finals, purely lost out through lack of investment in the players he wanted when he wanted them.

I agree with some comments and not others it all about opinions.Your reason for not wanting to play in the EL is a legitimate one unlike the other posters I had been referring to as happy to see us fail, they have other agendas We have a good enough squad to play in it and the players and manager don’t want to be denied the chance of any silverware Poch didn’t take the cups seriously.Jose has experience by winning it both times he has been in it,also it might be as good a chance to qualify for the CL as finishing in the top four. I know Levy doesn’t do the scouting and find the idea funny but agree that if we only get the player at the bottom of the list instead of the top it’s not good for relations with the manager whose reputation is on the line.

19/20 Ā£150m ,18/19 Ā£0 ,17/18 Ā£112.5m ,16/17 Ā£68.8m,15/16 Ā£53.5m if we get back max price for unwanted players and finish with a low nett spend that’s good business no.Buying players to the tune of near Ā£400m all 21 of them ,add on can’t be included in the books unless it’s paid.I didn’t include any.

What would fans count as Mourinho being successful in his next two seasons. Would you think the jobs done if we won an FA or League Cup but the League title and Champions League were as far away as ever? Qualifying for the Champions League again.

Sadly we will never know who chooses the players at spurs but I would guess levy in the main. Getting 4th choice on 5 players is just controlling your manager and in fact disrespecting him which makes it own problems . As for some fans not wanting the ropey.league for a year what’s wrong with that? We have a small not very good squad that doesn’t look fit which is handy as we don’t press anymore . Let’s just go for domestic cups and just use 16 players ,the Europa takes a lot out of a weak squad. The site is split down the middle on Maureen and will be all of next season unless we come flying out the blocks which I doubt guessing we will get less quality signing compared to other clubs . All this your not real.fans rubbish going around is just p ish fans look at what could have been and what could be and lots come up with a gloomy outlook . If I wasn’t bothered would I be on this site ,plenty left the last year ,,and guess what it’s all enic. Some still actually still believe enic when all the revenue comes in will share it equal šŸ˜‚, after all these years of being let down it’s like the horror version of field of dreams.

That figure looks great but it doesn’t take into consideration the windows where no money was spent but players were actually sold and not replaced. And most of the deals will be structured to pay the transfer fee over maybe five years and the Ā£150 million will include add ons that may never be achieved or paid, so the actual outgoing might be Ā£30 million a year and as ever more than balanced by sales.

Spurs haven’t been the best team in the land since they last won the league. We fluked our way to the CL final on the back of some bad results and a lot of luck(VAR) at City we all know we had been punching above our weight.Other teams around us for a season were in transition and enabled us to remain in the top four.Spurs/ENIC will survive with or without CL money ,provided covid -19 does one and all other sources of revenue,NFL,Rugby,Pop concerts ,Boxing etc can resume.Having Europa will also bring in additional revenue on top of the league and domestic cups.Since the CL final over Ā£150m has been spent on N’Dombele,LoCelso,Sessegnon,Clarke,Etete and Bergwijn.

You sound like a man without hope, Mikey. I loved Poch and want ENIC out, but the fact is the former is gone, and the latter are going nowhere.

My hope is that Jose’s experience can help direct our limited spend more wisely and instill a winning mentality into the team. It may or may not happen, and will take more than two thirds of a very unconventional season. It’s important to cling on to that faint hope though, because without that you’ve got nothing.

From a CL final to behaving like some newly promoted side that had just scraped into the ropey. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Truth is we had it made under Poch but he wasn’t supported in the transfer market, just like his predecessors who were also sacked by the little puppet master who pulls the strings and worships his masters solely in the aim of making money.
Make no mistake about it we were there, we’d reached the pinnacle of football and were arguably the best team in the land for at least 2 seasons. That was the time for proper investment from our owners, under Poch we played devastating football that swept sides like Palace away like a leaf in a hurricane. But our owners have no ambition whatsoever and the chance was gone. Players could see the writing on the wall and left.
Even after reaching the CL final our owners couldn’t bring themselves to properly invest could they? They are guilty of woeful neglect and knowingly conning the fans. Disgraceful behaviour.
Any body who thinks Jose is a miracle worker is sadly deluded. There is a limit to even what he can do with this mostly bang average squad. I doubt discount Danny’s events venue/shopping mall will ever see CL football again unless the squad is properly invested in.
The football under Jose is drab. No longer are we the mighty Spurs who blow teams away with our attacking football, but now we are like watching some boring chess match, we give ground and possession to the crappiest teams in the hope that we can attack them on the break. It’s worked once against Leicester City. But Leicester City were missing their first line defence almost entirely, a fact ignored by many Spurs fans. Against Arsenal we obviously raised our game, but realistically they could have scored 3 against us on another day. More worrying were our performances against the likes of Sheffield Utd, Everton, Bournemouth and Palace. Anyone who thinks these performances were the signs of a team on the up are not being realistic. Jose needs backing in the transfer market or next season is just going to be more of the same. The ropey will tax our squad and make things harder to climb up the league.
ENIC have blown it and in their relentless drive to save pennies are going to cost themselves one hell of a lot more in the long run.

Jose and his staff have every reason to celebrate. We were approaching freefall when he took over but he’s managed to steady the ship and deliver European football. It’s not pretty by any means but it’s a building block, and we have to look forward now. Poch’s head had gone and he isn’t coming back.

This was not directed to you posted 3 hours ago but too many posters this week openly wanted us to fail & not reach Europa to heighten their agenda.I want good football also but got fed up playing pretty football under Poch and winning nothing. If Jose can win something and get the monkey of our back playing negative football I can live with that at least for a season or two.I didn’t want him but his results is what matters. Like you I will miss being in the CL but it’s not an entitlement.

He didn’t get the players at the top of his wish list, but they were on his short list made up with scouting dept.He wouldn’t as you say be involved in the then signing of the player as that is Levys job so if you then call them Levy signings that’s up to you.In his time we kept our nett spend low by selling players he no longer wanted for the maximum ,again Levys job.It doesn’t get away from the fact Enic/Levy signed 20 players for Poch that he listed to the tune of Ā£322m not including LoCelso,in his last five seasons.

funny, as when he was here it was very public he didnt get who he wanted and was not involved in signing players…He was forced to sell top talent before he could buy, so was selling players like Walker for Ā£50m to use money to fill 2 slots. You warp history all you choose to suit the “pro Jose” rhetoric.

Poch took us to places we didn’t know possible, on a tiny budget. He raised expectations year on year until he simply had nothing left to give thanks to ENIC. We now have this arrogant sole on almost 3x the money, serving us boring football and telling us we are lucky. He celebrated last night because he felt happy, I will give him a whole season, but would rather have seen Poch get backed in the transfer market.

The Europa league has been good enough for Chelsea,Arsenal,Man Utd,Liverpool, and Wolves in the last five years now all of a sudden after a few years in the CL we’re too good for it! Reality check needed,14 teams below us would love to be competiting in it.Maybe Jose will try and win a cup as Poch showed utter contempt by fielding weaked sides in them all.Jose also had to achieve this with the same players who were left as you say emotionally and physically kaput after Pochs sacking.
