Where Precisely Is The Much Lauded #PlayersTogether Cash? [opinion]

Thanks for the pizzas Danny Rose, but let’s cut to the chase, eh?

The #PlayersTogether initiative is currently no more than a device to keep attacks upon the wages of Premier League footballers in a holding pattern. What grated for me in the #PlayersTogether statement was the line about “extensive conversations” as if this group had been involved in some class of heavy lifting in order to… well, what have they actually done?

Harsh? Well, not really when one considers that the death rate in the UK is tripping along seemingly unabated and still there are calls from certain health care sectors for adequate PPE resources.

Only days ago we were told that “Stars had stepped up“, yet unless I’ve missed it, they have not. I say ‘only days ago’ but this is a pandemic. Cash from millionaires that might arrive next week or next month… well it looks bad. Nah. Let’s have it right. It really stinks.

Connor McGregor shoved €1million straight into the front line health care services in Ireland.

I don’t want pizzas or anything as else ill-conceived. I’d like cold hard donations of £250,000 minimum from the Premier League’s top players – including Harry Kane.

You’ll all be retired by the time you’re 35. Get on with it and stop testing my already wafer-thin patience. Lumps of immediate cash, no whining, and zero excuses.

Thanks in advance & chop chop.

The UK’s record death rate and paucity of testing, PPE, ICUs and ventilators is on the Tory government, no matter what their media want us to believe. If Matt Hancock wants the wealthiest to contribute more he should try shaming not just working-class footballers but also the hedge funds, private equity firms and Russian.money launderers who own his party.

Two £19,000 donations to NHS hospitals, one in North London one in Doncaster and two £10,000 donations to two women’s aid/ refuge charities. That’s what I’ve read, off course I can’t vouch for the truth of these reports. The second donation to the Doncaster hospital was reported by Ben of WeAreTottenham TV, it looks like the £10,000 was shared by the women’s charities. He also made a donation to the Newcastle players money given to the newly set up Premier League players charity.

Totally agree. Fair play on Danny Rose, if he has given £58k, anything is better than nothing, although it is not even a week’s wage. He and his contemporaries wouldn’t hesitate throwing £150k at a Bentley. Some players will donate without the need for a media announcement, but equally, some won’t donate a bean.

Had he given a penny more, it would have been in The Sun.
Where does the £58,000 come from? I know of £29k would love to hear of more.

Pizzas aside, Danny Rose has so far made donations totalling £58,000, he could have made others for all we know, more than a lot of the big earners.

Very pleased you mentioned this as the silence is deafening. All I have read are some platitudes to Jordan Henderson. If I have understood this correctly, most of the players are not even in favour of a wage deferral which means that they will get all their money at a later date, rather than an instant deduction. Pathetic performance, but the beautiful game has been ugly for a long time.
