‘When he signed..’: Former PL star says Postecoglou signing has exceeded expectations

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur signed James Maddison from Leicester City at the start of the season.

The 27-year-old was expected to come in and add craft and goals to the Tottenham midfield. The England international has certainly lived up to the expectations and he has chipped with three goals and seven assists in 15 matches across all competitions so far so far.

Apart from his end product, his performances have been very impressive. Maddison has established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet with his work rate, approach and application. Former Premier League midfielder Joe Cole has now revealed that Maddison is a joy to watch and Tottenham fans would not have expected him to perform at this level when he joined the club at the start of the season.

“He’s a joy to watch. When he signed I don’t think even Tottenham fans realised how important he would be to their style of play. He just picks up these positions behind Gueye and then like we saw for the second goal he’s got lovely feet and body movement. He’s not quick, he just shifts the ball with his feet and it’s so good,” Cole said (h/t TBRFootball).

There is no doubt that Tottenham have extracted great value out of the investment in the midfielder and they will hope that he can get better with time.

Maddison is at the peak of his powers right now and he will look to build on his impressive start to life at Tottenham. The North London outfit are currently pushing for Champions League qualification and the 27-year-old could play a key role in their quest for a top four finish this season.

Tottenham reportedly paid around £40 million for the midfielder during the summer transfer window and the outlay could look like a bargain if Maddison continues to perform at this level.
